Celebrate December with Melissa Stinson

CelebrateDecember2014Welcome to Celebrate December at Elle’s Studio! The month of December will be packed with holiday inspiration, projects, layouts, and gift ideas from many talented designers. So make sure to visit Elle’s Studio everyday for prizes, giveaways, and inspiration!

Today we have Melissa Stinson with us sharing a peek into her Project Life album! Here’s what Melissa has to say:
EllesStudio-DSC_0175
Even though this particular week in my Project Life album fell in November, I was able to squeeze lots of great Elle’s Studio Christmas items onto it! We always have one week right before Thanksgiving that’s filled with Christmas events we attend early, and often there are more holiday related photos on it than some of the early December weeks!

As a scrapbooker who’s going all-digital next year, I’m thrilled that Elle has started to release monthly digital files along with her kits! Though I’ll be using the PNG files from the digital items on my layouts next year, for my 2014 physical album I’ve been printing out the included PDFs.

EllesStudio-DSC_3677
A really fun way to get a different look from a printable is to try it out on different types of paper. I printed the same file out on both kraft and vellum in the photo above, and you can see how different they look! These files are also perfect for use with the Silhouette’s Print and Cut feature, though I find that I’m more likely to use them (and keep up with them!) if I simply print the sheet out and then cut just what I need by hand.

EllesStudio-DSC_3687
With so many dark photos on my pages, I wanted to keep the rest of the spread light. I used lots of neutrals, including woodgrain and gray star papers from the Good Cheer collection and a selection of journaling cards with white backgrounds from the November and December monthly kits and add-ons. Most of the color on the pages comes from the die cuts included in both those kits and the Good Cheer Tidbits package. Lots of pink, aqua, red, and green going on here!

EllesStudio-DSC_3688

The end of the year is a great time to evaluate your Project Life process and decide if you want to change anything up for the next year. In 2013 I typed almost all of my journaling, mixed round and square corners on cards and photos, and used white borders on all of my photos. For 2014 I went back to hand-writing in my album, chose to round all the corners on my photos and journaling cards, and decided that I’d leave full-pocket photos border-less while adding a bit of white around pictures that are layered on cards to help them stand out more. If you’re tired of a certain part of your process, the size of your album, or the frequency of your layouts, the start of a new year is the perfect time to do something new!

Today we have Patricia Roebuck and Daniela Dobson with us sharing beautiful holiday cards!

Patricia shares “There is something so special about giving a handmade card to friends, loved ones, and people in your community.  I gave each card it’s own little personality.
Patricia_CardThe Joy card, I altered the Good Cheer Evergreen Cut File to have three strands coming down, then added swirls of gold thread.  Using the evergreen stamp from the Merry and Bright Stamp Set, I curved it along my card, which made a great place to add “Merry Christmas” from the Good Cheer- Merry Christmas Stamp Set.   Patricia_Card-2I added a little more of a homemade look to the card with the patches of pattern paper along the edges.  And warmest wishes, greets you with the beautiful woodgrain, blues, and a snowman, dotted with snowflakes stamped in brown for a cozy feel.

Patricia_Card-3

Each card has a little extra glimmer added to it with Zig Wing of Stella Brush.”

Daniela also created three beautiful cards.  She shares, “For the Merry Christmas card, I wanted to use the two cut files from the Good Cheer Digital Cut File : the circle, and the tree.  The tree I cut two times, once in white cardstock and once in glitter cardstock.  I layered them using 3D foam adhesive.

Merry Christmas by Daniela Dobson

The snowflakes from the November Digital Cut Files were perfect with these papers as I created the Warmest Wishes card.  I layered two of them, different sizes, with 3D foam adhesive.Warmest wishes by Daniela Dobson

As I was playing around and arranging elements for the Merry and Happy card, I saw a pocket for a gift card.  I trimmed one of the journaling tags, punched a circle at the top for the opening and sewed it onto a journaling tag.  It is perfect for a gift card or money.”

Merry and happy by Daniela Dobson

Thank you Patricia and Daniela for joining us today!

Today we have a fabulous pocket style spread to share from Nicole Harper!

ESpocketpage

Nicole shared with us a few tips as she created this gorgeous page:

  • I LOVE the We R Memory Keepers pocket style that has these 4×6 vertical AND horizontal slots… plus the fun 2×4 along the left side!   It allows you to mix things up so many different ways!
  • One of my favorite things is to use the 3×4 cards/photos in a 4×6 slot to mix things up, like you see here.
  • Can’t say enough about the transparency photo overlay.. and it was perfect for the picture of my bottle brush tree project! lol!ESclose1
  • I love the Numbers Stamp Set .. especially layering the outline over the solid stamp in a different color ink
  • I filled one of the 2×4 pockets with a few Elle die cuts, wood veneer, (I embossed it with green and blue), and a few sequins.  Just seal the pocket with some washi tape!ESclose2Nicole is instructing a class Pocket Style Class titled “Elements of our Everyday” at Gossamer Blue this January.  A fabulous class kit is included (while supplies last).  I (Jenni) am very thrilled to be a class contributor.  We would love for you to join us!

Today we have Ginny Hughes joining us with a beautiful holiday layout!

ginnyhughesES(1)

“I love Christmas and documenting the stories of the season.  It is such a busy time of the year that it is best for me to get the memories down before I forget what happened.  On the layout that I am sharing today I documented my niece’s first Christmas.  I love far away from my sister and her family so we don’t get to see each other very often , so getting together at the holidays is even more special.

ghughescloseupES

I went with the tried and true grid design.  It is easy and works every time.  You could easily use 4 photos if you have more than one that you want to include.  I started off with the pink and white number paper because I thought it really went well with my numbers theme.  I picked out 2 more coordinating patterned papers and used a 3×4 journaling tag from the November 2014 Kit for my journaling.  I finished it off with some gold paint splatters and some stitching.   Thanks for joining me today, I had a lot of fun working with the beautiful Elle’s Studio items!  I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!”

CelebrateDecember2014

Welcome to Celebrate December at Elle’s Studio! The month of December will be packed with holiday inspiration, projects, layouts, and gift ideas from many talented designers. So make sure to visit Elle’s Studio everyday for prizes, giveaways, and inspiration!

Today we have Suz Mannecke with us sharing TWELVE different Holiday Cards!

Suz shares, “Today I am sharing with you ‘The Twelve Cards of Christmas’.  This collection of cards range from clean and simple to a bit more involved but totally doable!  Below is my collection.  Many of these cards have added stitching, texture, and dimensions along with the fabulous exclusive Elle’s Studio wood veneers, stamps, pattern paper, and tags!Suz1For the card on the above right, I added a little bling to it along with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Marshmallow.  Love the subtle sheen it provides to the card.  The warmest wishes is an exclusive Elle’s Studio stamp.Suz2The card on the below left is was made with some Good Cheer pattern paper as well as the simply adorable “believe” tag.  Then I added some Stickles (glitter glue) for a little added shimmer.

The card on the right was made with a star punch.  The inside reads, “The stars are brightly shining— Wishing you a holiday season filled with sparkle and the love of Jesus.”Suz3(1)

The card on the below left, I took a 3×4 card from the Monthly Kit and used a circle cutter to cut out a window to place that fabulous wood veneer ornament in.  I added bakers twine and some pop dots to give the 3×4 card more dimension to showcase the ornament.  Then I used the “fa la la” exclusive stamp for the sentiment on a smaller flag tag.

The card on the right I also used a circle cutter and a circle punch to create the window and a pop dot to the “Joy” circle for added dimension within the card.  The little snowflakes (starbursts) were made with a mini punch.  Suz4 Suz5

For the card below on the right, I stitched between the patterned diamonds and used a craft knife to make a window for that adorable cute wood veneer Christmas Tree to peek through.Suz6

There you have it!  Twelve Different designs to help inspire you and help you get your holiday card making off to a great jump start!   Happy Holiday paper crafting everyone! May your days be merry and bright!

Today we have Lexi Bridges joining us with a festive Christmas layout!

ESdec

Lexi shares, “When it comes to scrapping December photos, I get excited.  I hardly ever scrap holidays or birthdays, I’m not sure why, but December… that I can do.  There seems to be some extra magic that comes with scrapping photos from this time of year.   Pair that with some Elle’s Studio festive product and you are already half way there.ESdec1

This layout is all about out annual tree picking out excursion.  Because of the layout’s theme, I thought the multiple tree images was on point.  i started with the tags.  I love making tags.  It’s a great way to use up paper scraps or bits of embellishment packs.  These tags shown here can be made really fast.  I just hand cut (no measuring) triangles from pattern paper and old dictionary paper to create geometric trees.   Super simple and would be so cutout use as a gift tag on a gift or even a card.

ESdec2The big tag on the side houses my journaling in a whimsical machine stitched tree.  I didn’t draw the tree in advance, which gives it a more imperfect look.  Imperfect and I get long quite well.  After it was sewn, I ran it through my typewriter for the journaling.  You can see I kept the colors pretty traditional as far as Christmas goes.  I love how that red really stands out on the tags, the stamps (love those Number Stamps!) and the letter sticker title, which I tried to make look garland-like.   Thanks for having me Elle!  Happy December, everyone!

Today we have Geralyn Sy and Juliana Michaels, joining us for Sketch Thursday!

sketch1

Geralyn says “I’m sharing a winter layout I made using lots of beautiful Elle’s Studio products.   We rarely get snow around here, so I knew I wanted to document a rare snow day using a variety of of the new tags and embellishments.  I think the stamps are my fave though!

gsy-elleguest01

I got the sketch to work with and it provided a great starting point for my layout.  I decided to focus on the grid design in the middle of the sketch and stuck quite closely to the design.

gsy-elleguest02

The kraft tag is actually is actually a cut file included in the Holiday Tags set, and I stamped some snowflakes around my layout using the exclusive Warmest Wishes stamps.  They created a visual triangle and added a more whimsical look to the layout. ”

gsy-elleguest03

Juliana also worked with this sketch!  She shares, “I always love a good sketch. They help me get the jump start on the creative process and for this layout, I was able to complete it in about an hour (which is fast for me!).

Joy_Christmas_Dog_Scrapbook_Page_Juliana_Michaels_Elles_Studio_Celebrate_December_01

When I first looked at the sketch, I immediately thought about using some of the 3×4 cards in the Good Cheer collection to create my page.  I used several of them as well as one 4×6 card.  Joy_Christmas_Dog_Scrapbook_Page_Juliana_Michaels_Elles_Studio_Celebrate_December_04

The shaker pocket was created using the transparency that comes in the Christmas Ephemera Kit.  I stitched up the bottom and sides, added some gold star sequins and then stitched the top closed.  I have a wonderful layout to remember our first Christmas with Milo!

Today Megan is sharing her annual Countdown to Christmas calendar with us!

meganklauerphotography-0081-copy

Megan shares, “Over the past four years, I’ve created this calendar for my kids. The frame hangs in our kitchen year round, but this time of year is when they get really excited about what it’s displaying. You see, on the back side of each of these cards is an activity we will be doing as a family. One for each day until Christmas.

Some of them are crafty, some simple, but most of all they are things that can be done together as a family.

Untitled-1-copy

So far we have set out into our timber to cut down a cedar tree to display by our front door :

IMG_8318-copy

and the next evening we added a bit of twinkle with some simple lights.

IMG_8380-copy

Tonight we are painting ornaments for the outside tree. I had my hubby cut a chunk of the trunk into pieces and drill holes in them. Super quick & FREE!

The rest of the month consists of thing like making paper chains, make bird seed ornaments, take part in a life nativity, drink hot cocoa, drive around and look at Christmas lights, and multiple other little crafty projects.

Untitled-2-copyEach morning my boys take turns reading that days card & they get excited knowing we will have a fun activity to do that evening. It helps with encouraging them to get their homework and chores done on time too! Hee!

I used a lot of goodies from the Good Cheer collection, Christmas & Winter Ephemera packs, and of course the Numbers Stamp set, & Letter Stickers are perfect for the Countdown.

template3-copyWhen we are through the 25 days of Christmas these tags will make their way into my Project Life album on it’s dedicated day along side my hundreds of photos I tend to snap during December. We have thoroughly enjoyed going back through past December albums and remembering past activities, new traditions, and seeing how much our kids have changed!

I encourage you to create a Countdown to Christmas calendar of some sorts and enjoy a little family time along the way!”

Thanks Megan for sharing this gorgeous calendar with us today!
