Today Emily Spahn is with us and sharing two holiday layouts!

meet jolly_emily spahn

Emily shares, “My kids have made snowmen the last two (or three?) years, yet I don’t think I’ve ever made a layout about a snowman!! The Winter Ephemera Pack, with its adorable wood veneer snowman and the cute snowman journaling card, was just begging to be put on a snowman layout…so here’s Jolly! I’m actually pretty sure this Snowman had about six different names, but I couldn’t fit them all on my layouts, so I just went with Jolly, which was his first name.

jolly1I decided to go with an overall cool color scheme in this layout, which was difficult because I had so many awesome pink and red items I loved. Luckily, there were just as many blue, green, and gray die cuts and papers calling my name!

jolly2I used a lot of items from the Winter Ephemera Pack, but I also included die cuts and wood veneer from various other kits. I love how the colors are consistent among the different lines and kits so they mix and match easily! The Good Cheer patterned papers were also a perfect fit, my favorite being the polka dotted background paper…it even looks like snow!

Very First Christmas_emily spahn

Confession: I am not a holiday layout lover. I don’t know why, but I have never been one to create a holiday layout using traditional Christmas colors. However, while I was searching through my photos and came across these ones of my son, I knew they would be perfect for a green and red layout using the fun Good Cheer collection.

veryfirst1 I incorporated a few gray elements to tie the colors together with his sweater. Also – photo taking tip…if you are going to take super adorable photos of your child at his first Christmas, make sure you don’t do it while he’s sitting in a carseat, thus making the giant, ugly carseat stickers and logo really noticeable in your photos! I was able to selectively crop these photos, but the middle one still had a bit of an unsightly warning label in the top left corner, so I did what any self-respecting scrapbooker would do…I covered it up with a cute transparency and a nice little star!

veryfirst2I had a really fun time making this layout. In fact, there were so many more cute red, green, and gray die cuts and elements that I had to cut myself off because I kept adding things and it was starting to look a little crazy! Again, I just love how all of my Elle’s products coordinate so well. It makes so so easy to create!”

CelebrateDecember2014Welcome to Celebrate December at Elle’s Studio! The month of December will be packed with holiday inspiration, projects, layouts, and gift ideas from many talented designers. So make sure to visit Elle’s Studio everyday for prizes, giveaways, and inspiration!

Today Christine Newman is sharing a festive layout and card with us!

Christine shares, “One of my favorite holiday movies is “Elf”. My husband Todd and I have watched it every year for a long time. A few years ago, we decided to have an “Elf” movie watching party at our house with our friends. It has become an annual tradition that we all look forward to!

ES_ChristineNewman_ElfParty (1)

I used a lot of papers, wood veneers, stamps, alpha stickers, and diecuts from the Good Cheer collection. Love this festive collection with awesome patterns & colors to scrap the holidays! I used a lot of alpha stickers and cut-out words to spell out one of my favorite quotes from the movie.

ES_ChristineNewman_ElfParty (2)

I also used the red alpha stickers for my title, right above the photo. I laid out my alphas on vellum, then I stapled the title onto the vellum backing my photo. Those Good Cheer wood veneers were perfect for the middle of the cut-out snowflakes!

ES_ChristineNewman_ElfParty (3)

I cut out a couple of tags using the Holiday Tags Digital Cut Files. The “Fa la la la la” from the Good Cheer – North Pole Stamp set was totally perfect for my theme.

Next I made a simple card I from Good Cheer Wood Veneers, Bits & Pieces, and the November 2014 kit. Elle’s journal cards and tags make holiday card-making super-easy!

ES_ChristineNewman_card

I loved creating with the wonderful Good Cheer collection and the holiday-themed November kit! The exclusive stamp sets are all amazing too! Documenting holiday traditions is one of my favorite things to do, and Elle’s Studio goodies made it easy and fun! Thank you so much for having me for this year’s Celebrate December!”

Today Jennifer Kinkade is with us sharing a beautiful layout!

happy little trees_1Jen shares, “I was immediately drawn to the Star of Wonder patterned paper, side B. I loved the natural look of the wood and thought it would be the perfect background for my photo. I started by adding some scrapes of white acrylic paint to ground my photo and embellishments. I also used a triangle stencil with my paint to add a graphic, directional element. Keeping with the wood and tree theme, I used lots of wooden embellishments.

happy little trees_2I built my photo and embellishments around my painted area, intentionally using tags and elements that conveyed the happy, merry feeling I had about my new favorite Christmas decorations.

Supplies used: Holiday Tag Cut Files, Good Cheer 12 x 12 paperGood cheer bits and pieces, Christmas ephemera pack, Elle’s Studio November 2014 kit.

CELEBRATE DECEMBER WITH CHRISTINE NEWMAN AND MELISSA MANN

CelebrateDecember2014

Welcome to Celebrate December at Elle’s Studio! The month of December will be packed with holiday inspiration, projects, layouts, and gift ideas from many talented designers. So make sure to visit Elle’s Studio everyday for prizes, giveaways, and inspiration!

For sketch Thursday we have two talented designers sharing layouts with us, Christine Newman and Melissa Mann.

Take a look at our sketch for today:

Image 3

Christine shares, “Triangles are one of my favorite shapes right now. I decided to use one of my favorite papers from Good Cheer, “Holiday Quilt”, because the patterns naturally form triangles. This page documents another one of our favorite Christmas traditions, affectionately called “Christmas On the Beach”. Ever since we moved to San Diego 15 years ago, we have spent all but one Christmas at the beach.

ES_ChristineNewman_GoodCheer (1)

I sewed the top triangle onto the page and used the pine sprig from the Merry & Bright Exclusive Stamp set to create a top and bottom border for the page. I also stamped a few snowflakes from Warmest Wishes Exclusive Stamp set and glued some sequins to the middle of the snowflakes. I love how they look on the page.

ES_ChristineNewman_GoodCheer (2)

I used a square photo that fit into the polaroid frame from Good Cheer Bits & Pieces. Then I propped up the photo on foam adhesive so it stands out on the page.

ES_ChristineNewman_GoodCheer (3)

I love how this page came together, and the magical feel of the Good Cheer collection!”ES_ChristineNewman_GoodCheer (4)

Next we have a beautiful layout by Melissa Mann to share using the same sketch.

CelebrateDecember_MelissaMann1I love that even using the same sketch, and the same product, she came up with a totally different look.  Her bright colors and touch of gold is just stunning!

CelebrateDecember_MelissaMann2The detail and layering in Melissa’s layout is just stunning!CelebrateDecember_MelissaMann3Thanks ladies for sharing your interpretation of this sketch!

Today we have Tracy Armstrong joining us and sharing a fun holiday themed spread in her pocket style album!

Don’t you just love Christmas time? For me it’s all about cozy nights, warm sweaters, hot chocolate with a pinch of cinnamon, rain boots – hey, I do live in Vancouver after all, and of course spending time with family!

tracy.ellesstudio.02

Today I’m going to share a pocket scrapbook spread I created using some of Elle’s Studio’s adorable Christmas products. This past year I’ve scrapbooked in a 6×8 size and it’s been such a fun change from the 12×12 size I did back in 2013.

tracy.ellesstudio.01At the start of each month, I print out a calendar onto a piece of patterned paper. When I first saw the triangle paper from Good Cheer I knew right away that it would be the calendar paper. I loved the traditional red and green mixed with the blue, pink and grey. It totally works!tracy.ellesstudio.03

I used a couple of the journal cards that matched the colours on the left because I like to have everything flow together. The wood veneers from this collection are so, so cute. They were a great addition to the grey 3×4 card.

tracy.ellesstudio.04To add a little something extra to the spread, I created a 4×6 insert using the pie chart card from the December 2014 Kit. I thought it would be cute to break out how I’ve spent my time this year. I used Numbers Stamp to stamp 2014 over the word “day” and the I hand stitched the heart wood veneer directly onto the card.

tracy.ellesstudio.05

Have a wonderful holiday season and I hope you guys enjoyed a peek into my scrapbook! To check out more from my album, feel free to check out my blog, follow me on Instagram and follow me on Pinterest .

Paige says, “Every December Elle’s Studio kicks of the most wonderful time of the year with an entire month filled with festive blog content. I received an huge box full of Elle’s Studio goodies and couldn’t wait to sit down and play with it all! Here are a couple layouts I made with Elle’s Studio supplies:

Christmas 2013 by Paige Evans

CHRISTMAS 2013 by Paige Evans

Description: Goodness knows I love to be inspired by quilts 🙂 With a square punch in hand this layout came together in a jiffy.

Journaling says: This was our first Christmas living abroad in Germany and while we were definitely homesick for our families and traditions we got to make our own family traditions like reading stories nightly and advent calendars!

Christmas 2013 Detail by Paige EvansHow to: Punch 1″ squares from all of the Christmas papers and a few die cuts then trim them into triangles. Starting in the center of a gray cardstock layout base, begin piecing the triangles in a quilt-inspired pattern. Sew over/around each paper diamond. Place a photo in the middle and embellish with a patterned transparency, die cuts, wood veneer, and more as shown. Place alphabet stickers along the side for a title then journal around that diamond with a white pen.

Supplies: Patterned paper, patterned transparency, die cuts, labels, wood veneer, stickers: Elle’s Studio; Cardstock, adhesive: American Crafts; Pen: Uniball Signo; Sewing machine: Brother; Thread: Coats & Clark; Square punch: Recollections

Fa La La La La by Paige Evans

FA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA by Paige Evans

Description: I found this photo from last Christmas season when we traveled to Italy and one night we met up with Stephanie Howell and her family. The colors of all our winter gear matched perfectly with these Elle’s Studio Christmas supplies!

Journaling says: The day after Christmas we drove down to Italy! One night we met up with the Howells and ate a delicious dinner. When in Rome, or rather, Vicenza!

Fa La La La La Detail by Paige Evans

How to: Watercolor across a white cardstock background and let it dry (or use a hairdryer to speed up the process). Layer die cuts, tags, sentiments, journaling spots, labels, etc, in color coordinated fashion, down the watercoloring. Die cut “fa la la la la la la la la” from white cardstock using a Silhouette Cameo then adhere it with pop dots over the die cuts. Tuck a photo under the title and journal on one of the tags. Place alphabet stickers on another tag. Add a few wood veneer shapes around the layout and stamp the date on a tag.

Supplies: Die cuts, journaling spots from November and December exclusive kits, labels, stickers, wood veneer, “fa la la” die cut file: Elle’s Studio; Cardstock, pen, adhesive, date stamp: American Crafts; Die cut machine: Silhouette Cameo; Ink: StazOn; Watercolors: Studio Calico

CELEBRATE DECEMBER WITH VALERIE BISHOP AND MEGHANN ANDREW

CelebrateDecember2014Welcome to Celebrate December at Elle’s Studio! The month of December will be packed with holiday inspiration, projects, layouts, and gift ideas from many talented designers. So make sure to visit Elle’s Studio everyday for prizes, giveaways, and inspiration!

Today we have Valerie Bishop and Meghann Andrew sharing instructions on making Christmas tags!

Valerie Bishop has three lovely tags to share today.  She says “I love making tags – it helps me to use up my scraps and I love to layer little bits and pieces on top of each other! I like to use these on gifts to special people in my life. Most of the products I used are from the Good Cheer Collection with a few cut files from November and bits and pieces from the Christmas Ephemera kit. All of the bases are just basic red shipping tags.
067 copy (1024x840)

Valerie shares, “I kept this tag simple. I used a tag and wood veneer piece from the Christmas Ephemera kit and layered it on top of a leaf from a cut file from the October cut file collection.

055 copy (844x1024)

For this tag, I used a tag from the Good Cheer Journaling Tags as the base. I used the Good Cheer – North Pole stamp and then I cut around the edge with a craft knife to layer a snowflake (from the November Digital cut files) and a wood veneer piece also from Good Cheer under it.

061 copy (944x1024)

For the base of this tag, I used a Good Cheer – Blank Label. I swiped watercolor paint across each label, then stamped the “love joy” words from the Warmest Wishes exclusive stamp set onto each box. I used one of the Good Cheer – Bits and Pieces as the title and layered a couple of snowflakes (November cut file) with some scraps from previous projects.”

062 copy (924x1024)

Meghann Andrews has three beautiful tags to share with us,   She shares, “I love creating layouts, but every once in a while, I need to create something on a smaller scale. I usually choose to create tags, and with Christmas around the corner you can never have a shortage of cute tags to dress up an otherwise plain gift.”

The addition of teal and pink to traditional red and green colors in your Christmas décor and gift-wrap adds a whimsical touch. Here’s how this tag came together:

  1. Start with the teal snowflake card from the Good Cheer journaling tags and cut the top corners off, 15mm from the sides and 20mm from the top. Adhere the edge of a white doily to the top of the card and trim. Adhere the manufacturers strip from the Merry Christmas patterned paper to the top over the doily and trim. Punch a hole at the center.
  2. Cut out the pink and the teal labels from the Good Cheer blank labels. Adhere the teal to the pink, slightly askew. Cut a piece of teal glitter tape to fit the inside of the teal label. Adhere both to the left center of the card.
  3. Color in the North Pole stamp with water based stamping markers in pink, red and teal. Stamp onto smooth cardstock and cut out. Using dimensional adhesive, adhere to the center of the blank labels.
  4. Cover the snowflakes from the Good Cheer wood veneers with a watermark inkpad and cover with white embossing powder. Emboss with a heat gun. Adhere to the tag. Add three white enamel dots to the card.

Tag 3_ES blog

If you’re like me, you like more neutral, natural Christmas décor and gift-wrap. This card would be a lovely accent on a kraft wrapped box or bag. To create this beautiful, woodsy tag:

  1. Cut a bracketed tag shape using a thin die or digital die-cutting machine from the Star of Wonder paper. Using the Good Cheer Merry Christmas stamp, stamp ‘merrry & happy’ all over the woodgrain using a medium brown stamp pad.
  2. Cut the ‘joy’ pinked circle from the November digital cut file from textured white cardstock. Using a circle template that fits the inside of the pinked circle, poke a hole with a paper piercer at every 1/16”. In your digital die-cut software, delete the word ‘joy’ and the stars from the pinked circle and cut again from brown glitter paper. Adhere the white die-cut to the brown die-cut using dimensional adhesive, but leaving the bottom un-adhered.
  3. Cut the antlers from the November digital cut file out of the Ever After paper. Adhere with the black side up to the back of the ‘joy’ die-cut.
  4. Die-cut the evergreen branch from the Good Cheer digital cut file out of green cardstock 4 times. Cut apart, arrange in a wreath on the back of the ‘joy’ die-cut circle and adhere.
  5. Cut out the ‘create wonder’ cutout from the Good Cheer cutouts. Adhere to the base of the tag.
  6. Wrap a piece of bakers twine twice around the bottom third of the tag. Tie in a knot. Put a jingle bell on each leg and then tie in another knot to secure. Adhere the ‘joy’ die-cut to the center of the tag. Slide the baker’s twine in between the white and the brown layer on the die-cut. Adhere the bottom of the layers of your die-cut with dimensional adhesive.
  7. Put a piece of natural ribbon through the hole at the top and secure with a mini-staple. Adhere gold metal dots around the green wreath.

Tag 1_ES blogIf you’re a Christmas color purist, you don’t tend to stray from red and green. Here’s how I created this traditional tag:

  1. Cut a tag from white cardstock using a wafer-thin die or die-cutting machine. Trim 1” off the bottom and cut with a border punch. Using a gold pen, draw gold stitches 1/8” from the edges.
  2. Adhere a 2” piece of Merry Christmas patterned paper to the bottom of the white tag and round the bottom corners.
  3. Stamp the snowflakes from the Warmest Wishes stamp onto the white cardstock with a watermark stamp pad. Top with white embossing powder and emboss with a heat gun.
  4. Using the Good Cheer digital cut file, cut the hand drawn circle from the North Pole patterned paper. Adhere to the white card.
  5. Cut the Good Cheer digital cut file evergreen branch out twice from gold glitter paper. Cut apart and adhere pieces to the center of the hand drawn circle.
  6. Using a backstitch, hand stitch around the ‘joy’ die-cut from the Good Cheer Bit & Pieces pack. Using dimensional adhesive, adhere to the center of the hand drawn circle.
  7. Tie a piece of ribbon at the intersection of the white cardstock and red patterned paper. Adhere red enamel dots to the gold evergreen branches.
