When it comes to documenting December stories, I often stick to classic or traditional color schemes. Yes, I have mentioned once or twice that I love a red or green-themed holiday page. This year, I am creating two holiday albums; one 3″ x 8″ to scrapbook this December and a 4″ x 6″ album dedicated to capturing Christmases past. Here is how I created two pages of the same holiday tradition using the December 2019 Kit and add-ons for my 4″ x 6″ album of years past. Have a look:
In this 4″ x 12″ double page layout, I documented the first year we included my daughter in decorating the Christmas tree. It was 2013 and I set up a camera on an tripod to capture us from afar. I resized this photo to 3″ x 4″ as it hides imperfections, but communicates the feeling of the season.
Using the red and warm hues from the photos, I paired it with the red + white 4″ x 6″ journaling tag and 3″ x 4″ “’tis the season” journaling tag, both from the December 2019 Kit. I added texture and layers by adding a tag from the Document December 2019 Kit and a Christmas Shapes and Dots puffy star in a visual triangle with the photo and tags.
In the second 4″ x 12″ double page layout, I document the same tradition of decorating the Christmas tree with my daughter. However this time, we are in a different house and instead of decorating a fake tree, we are decorating a real one!
Using the green hues from the photos, I paired it with the green “Season of Wonder” title tag and 3″ x 4″ “so much fun” journaling tag, both found in the December 2019 Kit. I added texture and layers by cutting a 4″ x 6″ pocket page down to 3″ x 4″ and adding a phrase from the Warm and Cozy Phrase Stickers with Christmas Shapes and Dots black hearts in a visual triangle to all the cards.

The holidays are here, which means that some of us may be taking a break from memory-keeping to carry out holiday tasks, attend parties and just generally make merry—but not these six paper crafters! They have made time to record their memories using Elle’s Studio product, and shared their projects using the #EllesStudio hashtag on Instagram! Let’s take a look at what they created:
On the left, Amy (@craft.room.adventures) prepped her Document December project so beautifully, and we love her title page created with our Document December Kit and Dec 2019 Acrylic! On the right, we love the beautiful color scheme and striking design that @mrs_david_vasquez used on this traveler’s notebook spread, which uses bits and pieces of our past monthly kits and add-ons! Beautiful shares, ladies!
We spy a Title Builder Vol. 3 title on this gorgeous layout on the left created by Claire (@scrappysoulmate). She combined the words “beautiful” and “moments” with alphabet stickers to coordinate perfectly with her layout, and we could not love it more! On the right Linsey (@linseygetscrafty) added missing pieces to her layout using small die cuts from our monthly kits, as well as our Puffy Autumn Heart Stickers. These are both gorgeous layouts, Claire and Linsey!
Lastly, we love that our design team member Tracey Fox inspired Brande (@brandedavison) to try something new on her layout, and we think it paid off! She used our retired All My Heart Paper Stack to create this quilted heart background, and topped it with our Sweetheart Puffy Stickers and Happiness Acrylic. What a simply beautiful page! On the right, Heather (@heatherdixon2016) is doing some AMAZING paper work using our Document December 2019 kit patterns! We can’t wait to see how the rest of your project turns out, Heather!

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! Photo-taking is a big deal to all of us scrapbookers, which makes the Say Cheese Stamp a go-to set for us to use in documenting. Not only is the stamp set very useable and practical for our needs, but there is also a matching Metal Die available! Whether you are documenting something serious, or something playful as I have today in my traveler’s notebook, you will turn to this stamp and die often. Today I’m using watercolors, embossing, inking in two colors, pencils, and patterned paper to show of this stamp and die! Let’s take a look!
To create color and repetition on the left side of my traveler’s notebook, I heat embossed the sentiment “smile” from the Say Cheese Stamp onto four of the solid pattern papers from ‘Tis the Season 6 x 6 Paper Stack and used the matching Say Cheese Metal Die to cut. On a separate piece of white cardstock, I added watercolors, concentrating on green and red as the dominate colors with a touch of yellow in between.
I added a few watercolor splatters with my paint brush, then added some second and third generation stamping around my watercoloring once dried. I used foam adhesive on the back of the ‘Smile’ stamps and die cut images to add more dimension. I then stamped the “Photograph Details” block from the Say Cheese Stamp to the bottom, adding the date with the Mini Dated Stamp.
For the top of this page, I didn’t want to take away from the look of my watercolor and heat embossing design, so I only added a heart with circle from the Say Cheese Stamp and the Wood Veneer Holiday Phrases. I stitched all the way around in white thread with sewing machine, and adhered my page inside my traveler’s notebook.
Working again on a separate piece of white cardstock for the right side, I placed my photo in the center, then used the banner metal die from the Say Cheese Metal Die using the same patterned paper I used on the left. I machine stitched with white thread on each banner and staggered them under my photo. I used a MISTI tool to ink the camera image from the Say Cheese Stamp in brown, used a baby wipe to remove the brown from the center, then stamped onto white cardstock. I then re-inked the camera in red, used a baby wipe to remove the red from the body of the camera and stamped again to create a single stamped image with two ink colors! Next, I used pencils to lightly add color to my camera and foam adhered it to the top of my banners.
I finished the top with a cluster of die cuts from the November Kit, and added another banner die cut using the Say Cheese Metal Die and the ‘Tis the Season 6 x 6 Paper Stack. It was a perfect spot to add my stamped title, “Selfie Fun,” using the Say Cheese Stamp. I then finished the page with stars from the Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers to balance with the left side, as well as repeating the stitching around my page before adhering it to my traveler’s notebook page base.
I hope these ideas of heat embossing, stamping in more than one color, using die cuts for stamping onto or creating a cluster, coloring your images, adding just simple stamping in either a single stamp or a second and third generation look help to jumpstart your next project! Enjoy!

List out your family traditions at the holidays and we bet that our monthly kit and add-ons will have you covered for documenting it! Design team member Jen McMurtrey is with us today to share how she documented a delicious tradition that she shares with her family, with some help from our November kit and add-ons! Let’s take a look!
If there is one thing you may have learned about me during the year I have been a member of the Elle’s Studio creative team, it’s that I love cut files! Like, I totally love them. Having the ability to customize my projects and using products in what I hope are unique ways has always been important to me. With that in mind, I used the November 2019 Kit and November Cut Files to create a layout documenting one of my family’s holiday traditions.
Every year during the holidays I look forward to making sugar cookies with my husband and kids. This is a tradition that began with my mother when I was a little girl, and I have made sure to continue it with my own children. Mind you, our cookies are definitely not works of art, but we love them just the same. However, I definitely wait to make them until right before Christmas so I don’t eat them all before we have our family get together. I have no control when it comes to sugar cookies!
The gingerbread man that is included in the November Cut Files is adorable and so fitting for this photo. I pulled several patterned papers from the ‘Tis the Season 6 x 6 Paper Stack and trimmed them down to a 3″ x 4″ size. Using each of the 3″ x 4″ pieces of paper, I cut five gingerbread men to place behind my picture. I’ve been trying to maximize the functions of my Silhouette and used a black sketch pen to outline the files prior to cutting them.
I wanted to create a focal point with the gingerbread men, so I tucked them behind layers of white cardstock that I had stamped stars, dots and sparkles in red, green, and black with the Say Cheese Stamp.
Not wanting to waste any of the scraps, I used a border punch to create the lace-like trim in red, white, and green; and I machine stitched them along the top edges of each layer along with the top and bottom of the project. This was the perfect touch and added just the right amount of color to pull everything together.
To tell the story of the photo, I journaled along the right side of the layout above and below the title. The picture says enough without my having had to write too much. The layout is already busy enough, so I wanted to keep this area of the project as simple as possible.
I added a few finishing touches amongst the gingerbread men using the Acrylic Candy Canes, which I shaped into hearts, and some of punctuation pieces from the Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers. I love all of the fun elements of this project!
