Our layouts usually start with paper, but what if that was the only thing we added to the entire page? Think it’s impossible? Well, Susan Brochu is here to show us that it is not, and that using only paper can create a pretty stunning layout!
Hello everyone! Today I’m sharing a layout created only with the Sweater Weather 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. I love the vibrant and beautiful colors and patterns in this stack! While many of the papers are suitable for any season, I decided that I would use the stack to document my favorite month, October. And all I needed in addition to this versatile paper stack was a sheet of white cardstock and a pen—that’s it! Let me show you how I did it:
Supplies | Sweater Weather 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, From Sketch To Finish Vol 4
My design inspiration for the layout came from the newest addition to the Elle’s Studio classroom, From Sketch to Finish Volume 4. I selected Sketch #9 as my starting point, and then twisted, turned and swapped some elements. That’s the great thing about sketches; you can copy them exactly or change them up and make them your own!
I began by trimming pieces of the patterned paper into banner shapes. I placed them along the left edge of a piece of 12″ x 12″ white cardstock, added a small amount of adhesive to the middle of each piece, and then stitched them to the page. Since my page topic is an autumn month, I thought the stitches would bring a cozy texture to the layout. I used my fingers to curl up the banner edges, almost as if they were caught in a crisp seasonal breeze, also in keeping with the autumn feel. I included the orange and white text paper as one of the banner pieces but I turned it sideways to make the words less noticeable; the paper now functions as an embellishment and not as journaling.
The paper stack includes a label pattern sheet that I just love. I grabbed my scissors and fussy-cut a few full labels to hold my journaling, and then cut some of the partial labels to use as accents along the edges of the layout. I didn’t want to waste any part of this label sheet! And while I had the scissors handy, I also cut some of the phrases and hearts from the text paper I mentioned earlier. There were several autumn phrases that were perfect for the page and the tiny hearts reinforced my theme.
I wrote my journaling on the labels and then adhered them under my photo, staggering them to mimic a leaf’s winding pattern as it falls from a tree.
I made two embellishment clusters with the fussy-cut pieces and stitched them along the top and bottom of the right side of the page. I also placed two tiny fussy-cut pieces onto the edge of my photo to help it look anchored to the cardstock.
So as you can see, the Sweater Weather 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack is not just beautiful—it’s functional, too! It’s got everything you need for every part of your project, so you’ll want to head over to the shop and pick one up for yourself!
