Hi everyone. It’s Heather Leopard here today with a supersized photo, some mixed media and just a few of my favorite things from the May 2018 Kit and the Noteworthy collection.
Supplies | May 2018 Kit, Arrow Label Stickers, Gold Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Puffy Heart Stickers — Spring Mix, Puffy Star Stickers, Title Builder Vol. 2 Wood Veneer, Good Times Acrylic, Noteworthy Cutouts, Noteworthy Word Labels, Noteworthy Bits and Pieces, Noteworthy Wood Veneers, Noteworthy Puffy Stickers, Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers, Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection
This entire layout was inspired by the Title Builder Vol. 2 Wood Veneer word, “good”, and the Good Times Acrylic word, “times.” I knew I wanted to use those together for a title, but I had no idea what photo to document. I started thinking about recent good times as a family and I went straight for carnival photos. I spotted some of my girls in this giant swing ride but I guess I didn’t snap the photos fast enough because I didn’t have a good one that featured them both. Then, I had a great idea to freeze one of the videos I had taken. It worked out great because I was able to go frame by frame and take a snapshot of the exact image I wanted—both girls having a good time!
My photo measures 6-1/2″ x 10″. I wanted the scale of the photo to be giant, just like this giant swing they were on. I started out by cutting some border strips from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection—some are from patterned paper manufacturer strips and others are patterned paper strips that I just cut down. Either way, I wanted something to “ground” my large photo to the page.
Next, I started lining up labels from the Noteworthy Cutouts and Noteworthy Word Labels, and cutting down 3″ x 4″ tags from the May Kit to make a rainbow cluster in the white space of the photo. I did this BEFORE I decided to add color behind it so I had to remove them, but before I did that, I went ahead and glued them to the photo. I liked where they were and didn’t want to guess how to put it all back. Once they were adhered, I also lifted the photo up and marked the areas with a pencil where each color began and ended so the ink would match the labels.
Next, I lifted the photo up and applied a generous amount of white gesso to the background. Once dried, I colored a rainbow on the page: the messier the better. Once that was dry, I added my photo back, stitched around it, over the labels and everything and added embellishments like the Gold Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Puffy Heart Stickers — Spring Mix and Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers. I cut the yellow circle out of a 3″ x 4″ tag from the May Kit and used that to create an area for the “good times” title. Last but not least, I added journaling.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
