A Lovely Pocket Page with Steph Grimes

Hello again everyone! I am back for the final time this month to share with you one more project using the February Kit and add-ons. I found the February Kit to be extremely versatile—there were so many uses for the elements included and they coordinated so well with a variety of stories I wanted to tell this month. One of my most favorite elements of the whole kit was the 3″ x 4” tag with the falling hearts! I knew as soon as I saw that I knew I wanted to use it to tell a story about Valentine’s Day and love. So for this 6″ x 8” pocket page, I used that tag as a jumping off point and based the whole project off that single element.

My husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day, but this year we went out the weekend before to see a show as a fun date night, so I included a photo from that night as well as some other photos from the week that captured the big love we have in our small family. On the 3 x 4” tag with the falling hearts from the February Kit, I added the title “we are so loved” using the Black Cardstock Alphabet Stickers and Black Puffy Alphabet Stickers.

In the next 3″ x 4” pocket, I stapled on one of the die cut pieces from the kit and layered White Cardstock Alphabet Stickers on top of a photo of our pup, Ruby, all decked out in her heart headband. Those tiny cardstock stickers have been one of my favorite products to use on projects this month! They are a great font and great size for adding a subtitle to a layout, or small phrase to a photo or journaling tag. And you can never go wrong with puffy stickers!

Sticking with the red, pink, and black color scheme I created on that first journaling tag, I added the red bordered stickers from The Best Banner Stickers to the 4 x 6” photo on this side. (I lucked out that the phrases on the red bordered stickers worked perfectly for this photo!) I love the way the little stack of banners turned out and can’t wait to use more of those on other projects. It was a great way to fill a little of the negative space in this photo. Above the stack of banner stickers, I stapled one of the smaller pink stars from the Star Chipboard Stickers.

On the opposite side, I added the “a little note” journaling tag to write a little love note to my husband. I added Black Cardstock Alphabet Stickers to address and sign the letter with our names for a little extra embellishment.

Since my 4″ x 6” photo on this side was pretty busy, I wanted to add a simple element. I had one leftover Cork Speech Bubble from my last project, the one with the heart on it, so I stapled that in place in the middle of the photo. It helps to cover up some of the distracting background in the photo and works really well with the other hearts and elements I’ve used so far. I like to use repetition as a design element in my projects, so using the staples to attach embellishments helps to unify the pockets.

For my final pocket, I added another journaling tag that I embellished using a variety of stickers. I wanted to create a card that would match the color scheme of the whole project and create more cohesion. Initially, I struggled with what to do for this tag, and then went back to my original inspiration, the falling hearts tag, for an idea. I added all of the red hearts from the Shapes & Dots Puffy Stickers, as well as a few of the pink dots, then sprinkled in a few of the black stars from the Star Chipboard Stickers to imitate the falling hearts I loved so much on that first tag. To top it off, I added one of the phrase die cuts and stapled it in place.

This project came together pretty quickly and was fun to make. I love how it captures the sentiment of love and how the products in the February Kit and add-ons supported this simple story. I don’t think I’ve ever used so many stickers on one project before! I am generally not much of a sticker fan, but the Elle’s Studio stickers win me over every time! I love using them on my projects and simply cannot get enough of them.

Well, this month has flown by, and I am sad that this will be my last guest post for the month. I have so enjoyed sharing my projects with the Elle’s Studio community and hope I’ve been able to inspire some of you. Thank you so much for having me—it’s been such a pleasure!

Hi, friends! I’m Steph Grimes and I live in Maryland with my wonderful husband and our sweet little red pup, Ruby. I love crafting, Tom Petty, road-tripping, and playing tabletop games. I have been scrapbooking since I was in college in some form or other. I enjoy documenting all types of stories from our day-to-day life to our grandest adventures – like the three-week cross-country trip we took a couple years ago. You can find my work on Instagram or my recently-begun YouTube channel. I am honored to be an Elle’s Studio guest designer – thank you for having me!

We have loved seeing what Steph has created with our new products this month. In case you missed it, she also created an adventurous layout for week one and a pocket page in a rainbow of colors for week two. Thank you so much, Steph, for sharing your work with us!
