We are excited to welcome Sarah Zayas back today for her second guest post on the ES blog! Traveler’s notebooks are hot right now in papercrafting- they’re compact and easy to take along for quick memory-keeping projects. Today Sarah is showing us how she is documenting the extra memories from her month that may otherwise be forgotten in a homemade traveler’s notebook. Let’s see what she created!

This year I’ve taken a much more relaxed approach to Project Life. Last year I was documenting pretty consistently on a weekly basis, but this year I decided to remove that pressure on myself. Instead, I’ve been putting together layouts whenever I feel like a story or a particular week needs to be documented. While this approach has been great at this time in my life, it also sometimes leaves me feeling like I might be forgetting to document the little things.
That is where today’s traveler’s notebook comes in! One weekend I spent some time going through all of my photos from January through March and picked out all of the ones that represented things that have brought me joy- from taking a trip to see the California poppies at the Antelope Valley California Poppy reserve, to finally giving up coffee (both a good and sad thing!) to taking our puppy Nugget to the dog park.
Since I didn’t have a pre-made traveler’s notebook on hand already, I went ahead and made my own. The black and white heart printed paper from the Live Laugh Love collection was an instant favorite for me so I decided to use that as my cover. For the inside pages I used regular printer paper. In hindsight I wish I would have had a heavier weight paper to use for the inside, but this still worked out okay. I just needed to get creative when my writing bled through to the next page. 😉 I added a few staples to the center of my book, and voila!, DIY traveler’s notebook complete.
I embellished the cover using these super fun and colorful Puffy Heart Stickers and the Live Laugh Love Acrylic, which I adhered using some glue dots. The inside was all about lightly layering papers and embellishments to create little clusters around each photo.
The Elle’s Studio kits are absolutely perfect for traveler’s notebooks because you get so many cutouts, stickers, alphas, and other embellishments that don’t add a lot bulk to the project. Also, can we just take a moment to admire the Live Laugh Love Washi Tape Stickers?! I love the cute prints and pretty colors!
So there you have it, a little traveler’s notebook filled with bits of happiness! Just a fun and relatively quick project to make sure those important memories get documented.
Hi, friends! My name is Sarah and I live in Southern California with my husband and our puppy, Nugget. I’ve loved crafting for as long as I can remember, and in fact, one of the first completed projects I can remember making was a yearbook style scrapbook in Middle School!
I am currently on the Ali Edwards and Feed Your Craft design teams, and I’m super excited to be teaching my first class over at Big Picture Classes in April 2017! If you love pocket pages I hope you’ll check it out!
When I’m not scrapbooking in my free time, I’m usually relaxing with my husband and our dog, reading, scrolling Instagram, working on home projects, or planning our next adventure (I love a good adventure!).
Be sure to stop back next week to see another beautiful project created by Sarah! Until then, follow her work on Instagram, YouTube and her blog.
