November Kit + The Merriest = Fa La La with Meg Gundlach

Hi scrappy friends, Meg here! You must have noticed that Elle has been just sleighing it (hahaha…hohoho?) with releases lately and if you’re anything like me, you gotta have it all. Today I wanted to share a few ways I combined the November 2021 kit and add-ons with The Merriest products to make a pocket spread worthy of the most wonderful time of the year.

Supplies | November 2021 Kit, The Details Printables, Holiday Fun Stickers, Red Cardstock Label Stickers, Moss Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Puffy Heart and Star Stickers, The Merriest Puffy Stickers, The Merriest Chipboard Stickers, The Merriest Vellum Die Cuts, Wonder Paper Stack, A Merry Moment Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 5 The Merriest Stamp

Recently I was pulling a spread from my 2015 album (coming later this month!) and I discovered an absolute treasure trove—a dozen unfinished pages from a particularly awesome Home for the Holidays adventure. I know there can be a huge ‘caught up’ mentality towards this type of project, but having these pages to work on right now was exactly what I needed. Thanks past me!

The left side of the spread includes our journey in some detail, as it looked a little different that year. Though this is technically a ‘travel’ page it was also the official start of our Christmas season and I was happy to lean into that. Since the page was already photo heavy, I decided scatter my embellishments across the pictures themselves and the holly jolly The Merriest products were absolutely perfect for that. I especially loved pairing the Title Builder Vol. 5 The Merriest Stamp with the coordinating The Merriest Chipboard Stickers to highlight bits of magic across the spread.

Quick tangent: I’m totally obsessed with Elle’s journal tags that are a series of stacked label sections, so I was thrilled to see them included in both the November Kit and The Details Printables this month! They add just the perfect spaces for little notes to 3×3 photos and the finished look is so polished and intentional. They are frequently the first tags I pull from any kit. Love them! Ok, back to the spread…

The right side of the spread covers the first few days at home, which are usually pretty chill. I took this opportunity to tell a couple small stories and really enjoy my supplies. Lots of layers. Lots of words and icons. I went big and bold and it’s all super fun.

I wanted to use The Merriest Vellum Die Cuts immediately after opening them; even though they are quite large, you can totally still use them in pockets! ‘Home’ was the perfect sentiment for this otherwise blah weather pic and I paired it with a banner from The Merriest Chipboard Stickers. However, when I was adding my final touches to the page I decided that I wanted a little more dimension… and this is where I may have gone off the rails a bit. The word ‘Home’ also appeared in the The Merriest Puffy Stickers and I liked the repetition since it was kind of the point of the spread. However, the puffy word was white and blended in too much. I pulled out a gold leafing pen I’ve owned for at least a decade, crossed my fingers, and went for it…and it WORKED!

Well now I was pretty much unstoppable. Though Elle already makes the most amazing gold puffy stickers, my spread was nearly done and I wanted to stick with what I had going. I identified my place abbreviations as my next gilded targets. Love the combination of the (still) Moss Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers and their now gold companions. It was exactly the touch this page needed.

The mix and match approach of the Title Builder series has endless options for pocket page uses and the addition of The Merriest (Vol. 5) pulls it into a whole new realm of holiday celebrations. Focusing on The Merriest products throughout this spread encouraged me to play more and enjoy the process—and isn’t that really the point of holiday memories? I can’t wait to see how you have paired these elements in your own projects!
