Encouraging Yourself with Aimee Mertel

Hi there Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Aimee here with you today walking you through this fun travelers notebook layout using the new August 2021 Kit and Extras. I have affectionately titled this layout “note to self” and you will see why soon— let’s take a look.

With this layout I wanted to tell a more personal story about struggling creatively, floundering in my process and feeling conflict and pressure to capture ALL the memories in a beautiful way. Oftentimes, I feel behind in memory keeping, especially when it comes to documenting older memories and stories, which can be an overwhelming feeling. I wanted to conceal my journaling for this project since it is more private. What better way than to tuck it into an envelope? The new Pocket Envelope Metal Die made it easy to cut out an envelope in a coordinating color and pattern.

The patterned paper I chose happens to be from the Good Times Paper Stack and I just love how Elle’s Studio papers can always be mixed and matched even with newer releases. Next, I typed up my journaling on a trimmed 3 x 4 inch tag from the August 2021 Kit and tucked it safely inside my envelope. I used the Open Here Stamp and coordinating circle die to cut and stamp out an, “open here” letter seal for the outside of the envelope.

The left side of the layout houses my photo of a desk shot of an older pocket page project I have been meaning to catch up on—and finally took the plunge on completing. I used stars from the Proud Of You Die Cuts pack to embellish and stamps from the You Got This Stamp to give the layout context. The “currently on my desk” stamp is one I foresee myself using a ton as a scrapbooker!

On the right side, I had a ton of fun stamping sentiments in labels from the August Kit, combining them with the Chipboard Circle Stickers to create a truly unique page. I added a teal tab from the Light Teal Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers to the top for some interest and even more interaction.

I absolutely love the upbeat look of this spread and love even more, that I was able to hide my, “note to self” so that it would not detract from the overall mood of my layout. This is just one of the many ways to use the Pocket Envelope Metal Die. Tell me, do you ever write encouraging notes to yourself or add them to your projects? I hope I have inspired you today to give it a try. Until next time, happy creating!
