Hi there, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Shannon here, showcasing how you can use the beautiful June 2021 kit and add-ons in your pocket pages. Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the colors in this kit? I had to use them all on my page! The end result makes me so happy. Since I did use so much color on this page, I wanted to use a few design techniques to tie the page together so it didn’t become too overwhelming, and I’m here to share those with you today!
Supplies | June 2021 Kit, Summer Label Stickers, Celebrate Summer Stamp, Weekend Stamp
Do you see all the stars? When I chose to use the yellow 3 x 4 inch tag with the stars down the side, I knew that I wanted stars to be a repeated element on my page. I intentionally chose die cuts and stamps with stars. I even used the small star from the Weekend Stamp to check off boxes on that weekend list 3 x 4 inch tag! Stars everywhere. But they work to weave a thread of consistency throughout my page.
Next, I used a repeated phrase on three of my photos. I took one of the seals from the Celebrate Summer Stamp and inked only half of it. Then I stamped it along the edges of three photos. I stamped in black in part because it works better on photos, but also to make it stand out against all of the color on the page. In choosing my photos, I made sure they were in a visual triangle on my page.
Finally, I used one of my favorite design techniques lately. You’ll find this on a lot of my Elle’s Studio layouts. That technique is tone-on-tone. I love using die cuts or stickers to achieve this look. On this tag, I used a mix of two Summer Label Stickers with a die cut from the June Kit,. I couldn’t find a yellow label sticker that had a sentiment that I wanted to use, so I used an exacto knife to slice right above the phrase and then just adhered that piece to the bottom of the tag. Tone-on-tone is such a fun way to add subtle accents and texture to your pages. I finished off the tag with this fantastic stamp from the Weekend Stamp.
I hope that I’ve inspired you to try a new technique or two on your next layout. I’d love to see it! Happy scrapping!
