Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Shannon here with a project showing you how to use your monthly kit outside of pocket pages. I’ll admit, it’s taken me a while to wrap my head around using pocket tags as somewhere other than inside a pocket, but it opens up a whole world of possibilities! Let’s take a look.
Supplies | January 2021 Kit, Remember This Printables, January Labels, True Love Stickers, Love You Chipboard Stickers, Dark Pink Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Puffy Heart Stickers, Love You Wood Veneer, XOXO 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Hugs and Kisses Stamp, Monthly and Daily Tab Stamp (free for subscribers!)
Look for tags from your monthly kit with words or phrases that you can use as a title, subtitle, or word art. The “this is love” tag from the January Kit is perfect for this! Since the wording is near the top, I was able to use it behind my photo. I chose the teal tag with the grid and hearts as another accent because the pattern was subtle. Since I mixed my tags with patterned paper in layers, I wanted to make sure there weren’t too many patterns overwhelming the eye. I also incorporated some of the die cuts from the January Kit into this side of my layout like the tab and tag.
The first half of my page title is on a 3″ x 4″ flip out that opens to reveal journaling. Since I had a lot of patterns on the other side of my layout, it was important to keep this side a little more simple. The monochromatic pattern from the XOXO Paper Stack was perfect!
When the title tag is flipped open, my journaling is revealed. I love using the digital journaling tags so I can type my journaling, and this month’s Remember This Printables included the perfect tag for creating a list of 5 things! I find that I often have a lot to say and typing it allows me to fit it onto the page better. This tag actually served as my color palette inspiration for the whole layout, which is odd, since it’s hidden!
I really wanted to use the Love You Wood Veneer as part of my title, but it was too big for the design I had in mind. Instead, I split my title. In doing so, I was able to add in some more color and a fun divider element in my spread. To attach the divider to my album, I cut two strips of paper to 0.75″ wide and about 4″ long. After folding them in half, I punch a hole in each and sandwiched them between two pieces of patterned paper.
I hope that you enjoyed seeing how I used some of the journaling tags and die cuts from the January Kit outside of the pockets. If you’ve never given it a try, I’m inviting you to dive in and see what you think!
