Fancy a Cuppa? with Jen McMurtrey

Our newest stamp, Let’s Eat, can cover a wide variety of cuisine delights, including those from different countries, as design team member Jen McMurtrey is showing us in a new project today! Let’s take a look at how she used it to record a trip to a fun, new cafe, and a current obsession!

The Elle’s Studio November 2019 Kit and add-ons are simply delightful, and I’ve had a lovely time working with them to create beautiful projects. One of my favorites this month is a spread in my weekly traveler’s notebook documenting a recent outing to a local British bakery.

Confession time: recently, I began watching Downton Abbey—I know, I’m late to the party—and I literally cannot stop. I love every single thing about the series and am already on season four after only two weeks of watching. Everything about English society and customs has always fascinated me and this show is no exception.

Recently, a British bakery opened in my small town and I finally had the opportunity to stop in for proper tea and an authentic fruit tarte. I so enjoyed the experience and cannot wait until I can visit again. Naturally, I had to document the experience and the November 2019 Kit worked perfectly.

I’ve really been pushing myself to always use Elle’s stamps in some way in order to create truly unique projects. For this layout, I used the Let’s Eat Stamp to create a colorful background on the left page as well as create embellishments to layer with the journaling.

To keep the story front and center, I used a journaling tag backed with red paper from the ‘Tis the Season 6 x 6 Paper Stack. I added a few puffy stickers to balance the page and add contrast to the stamped background.

One of my favorite items to use on projects is ephemera, and I am constantly going to estate sales looking for vintage items to use in my scrapbooks. Here, I used a “Guest Check” ticket with paper from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection to create a backdrop for the photo.

One of my favorite things about the bakery was the decorations. We sat at a table that had the Union Jack painted on it, which was the perfect backdrop for my photo. A doily and red paper from the ‘Tis the Season 6 x 6 Paper Stack were all I needed to back the photo and create contrast against the ticket.

A few die cuts from the November Kit, a Wood Veneer Holiday Phrase, and puffy stickers completed the right side of spread. I love how it all came together!

You will all have to bear with me as I continue with my Downton Abbey obsession as I may continue to create British-themed projects. At least I have a local bakery to visit the next time I fancy a cuppa!

Thank you for visiting and I hope you have the happiest of days.
