We love Lorilei’s intricate, colorful layout designs, as well as her clean, graphic traveler’s notebook spreads and pocket pages, and we know that you will be so inspired by what she has to share with us this month! Let’s hear from Lorilei:
I am thrilled to be the guest designer for October at Elle’s Studio! I love to use Elle’s Studio products for my 6″ x 12″ pocket page albums!
For my first project this month, I decided to create a spread in my 2017 album, so I gathered all the Halloween items from the October Kit and add-ons and got to work! I had tons of photos, so I ended up with two 6″ x 12″ pocket pages and a 6″ x 8″ insert! The Elle’s Studio October release is packed with Halloween goodies, so putting together the spread was easy!

I started with my usual process and printed the photos first. When I started creating pocket pages, I quickly had to come up with a process that worked for me so that it wouldn’t become overwhelming. After my photos were printed, I laid out the tags that I wanted to use. Next, I did all my journaling in Photoshop and popped my tags into my printer. Sometimes I hand write on the tags, but I find printing my journaling quicker, and I end up with less spelling errors!
Once I had all the tags from the October Kit, in place, I got to the fun part: embellishing the tags and photos! I started with the Trick-or-Treat Wood Veneer in a 3″ x 4″ pocket and attached the “Oct 31” wood veneer piece from the Halloween Wood Veneer to my photo. I love how it fits perfectly in that the negative space! To create balance, I made sure to distribute other wood veneer banners from the Halloween Wood Veneer around the spread.
As part of my process to simplify my pockets, I limit my spreads to two or three colors. It helps me to make a spread quickly and gives me a nice cohesive look in my pockets. I used mostly teal, black and pops of orange on these pockets and I love how it turned out!

Hello! My name is Lorilei Murphy (pronounced Lauralee) and I live with my husband and teenager daughter on a farm about an hour north of Calgary, Alberta. I have always been a crafty girl and the last 4 years I have spent lots of time exploring memory keeping in different forms. I started out by delving into Pocket Page albums and I went back to 2009. It was a big job but well worth the effort! I have been scrapbooking for just over a year and love the creativity and the community!
