Vacation Life with Heather Leopard

Do you have a beach vacation planned this summer? How do you get that tropical-vibe on your layout that documents a favorite holiday memory? Get inspired by the tropical surroundings, the way that Heather Leopard did on the layout she’s sharing with us today! Take a look at what she created using our June 2018 Kit and add-ons:

Hi everyone! It’s Heather Leopard here, and I have a question. What do you think of when you dream of Hawaii? For me personally, I think of honu (turtles), hula/luau, pineapples, shaka, leis and of course palm trees.

As you can see, Hawaii life, or at least Hawaii vacation life, was my inspiration for today’s layout.

To get started, I created the circular design of these images in Silhouette and added my photo. I contemplated what to do in the center and since I hadn’t used palm trees around the circle, I decided to fill the circle with them. At this point, I removed the palm trees and photo from the design and cut the circular elements and palm trees separately using my electronic die cut machine.

Once the elements were cut out, I decided to add some splashes of color, or “crashes” of colors similar to the waves the waves crashed on us last summer. They were pretty intense. I used mist mixed with water along with two methods to get this effect. One was the packaging method and the other was to blow the mist using a straw to attain the splashy look. Next, I backed each die cut shape with patterns from the 3″ x 4″ tags found in the  June 2018 Kit and from the 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. I didn’t plan it, but the words in these patterned papers were the perfect size for some of these cut outs so that made me super happy!

I placed the numbers background paper from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection and the palm trees in the middle to complete that part of the design, added layers around my photo, adhering that to the page along with plenty of embellishments, like the Summer Wood Veneer Frames and Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers. I finished it off with the Shine Acrylic in one of the “crash zone” areas and will add private journaling on the green labels, cut from a 3″ x 4″ tag in the June Kit.

Thanks so much for checking out this fun, summer layout! Aloha!
