Documenting the Past with Sarah Zayas

When you’re “behind” in your pocket-page scrapbooking, it can be difficult to find the inspiration to go back a few months, let alone a few years in your memory keeping. However, our April guest, Sarah Zayas, is back with us today to show us that documenting the past doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult! Let’s see what she created.

Hello, friends! Today I’m back to share one final project! I’ve had so much fun being a guest designer over the last few weeks and I want give my thanks to you if you’ve been following along, and to Elle’s Studio for having me!

Today I am sharing a pocket page layout that documents a typical month a few years back. In my last post I shared that this year I’ve been documenting less regularly with Project Life. One of my several reasons for making that decision was to free up some time so that I could document previous years as well. So far I’ve been doing monthly or bi-monthly spreads based on how many photos I have from each month. It’s been a fun experience so far, and though I never thought I’d go so far back to document life in this format, I’ve found it to be so worthwhile.

For the filler card above I cut down two patterned papers from the Live Laugh Love 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack to 3” x 4” and then cut one of them diagonally to lay on top to create a mixed-pattern look. I love the contrast between the black and white plus signs and the woodgrain. In the middle, I adhered the “keeping it real” phrase from the Live Laugh Love Word Labels and die cut star from the April 2017 Kit. I think adding something to the middle of the diagonal line helps to tie everything together.

Journaling can sometimes be a challenge for me, especially when I’m documenting something that happened a while back! I feel like bullet journaling is perfect for this situation. I simply wrote the facts of things that happened that month, basically describing what can be seen in each photo.

If you read my last two posts, then I’m sure you already know what a huge fan I am of the Live Laugh Love Wood Veneers. They are seriously so good. I love the natural element that the wood adds to the page, and how it doesn’t distract from the photo even though it’s placed directly in the middle.

I added a few more embellishments to the other photos and this page was complete! Super simple!

If you’ve ever considered going through old photos and documenting the memories using pocket pages, I hope you’ll give it a try. It doesn’t have to complicated, as I once thought it would be. In fact, I’ve found the hardest part to be just getting started.

Hi, friends! My name is Sarah and I live in Southern California with my husband and our puppy, Nugget. I’ve loved crafting for as long as I can remember, and in fact, one of the first completed projects I can remember making was a yearbook style scrapbook in Middle School!

I am currently on the Ali Edwards and Feed Your Craft design teams, and I’m super excited to be teaching my first class over at Big Picture Classes in April 2017! If you love pocket pages I hope you’ll check it out!

When I’m not scrapbooking in my free time, I’m usually relaxing with my husband and our dog, reading, scrolling Instagram, working on home projects, or planning our next adventure (I love a good adventure!).

Thank you so much, Sarah for sharing your beautiful pocket page spreads with us! Be sure to follow Sarah on Instagram, YouTube and her blog to see more of her work. Stay tuned for another guest designer to inspire you next month!
