Tic-Tac-Toe Love with Guest Designer Susan

We are so excited to welcome Susan, a.k.a. @littlethingsbigdays, as our guest designer for the month of February! This month, she will be sharing three different projects with us featuring the February Exclusive Kit and add-ons. She caught our eye with her clean, graphic designs that always share the little stories of her life, and we could not love her projects more! Let’s take a look at her first post, and stay tuned to see her work again next week!

Hello everyone – I’m really delighted to be here as guest designer this month! I have always loved Valentine’s Day, and the February Exclusive Kit, with its traditional heart day colors and pretty touches of yellow and gray, inspired me to revisit some Valentine memories. When I opened my box of fabulous goodies from Elle and spied the large acrylic “X” and “O”, I immediately thought of a tic-tac-toe board and decided to use that to inspire the design of my first page.

After lightly drawing pencil lines to guide me, I stitched the lines for my “board” with white thread using my sewing machine. In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably mention that I first tried to freehand sew my board, which left me with a terribly wonky mess that couldn’t even charitably be called a tic-tac-toe board. Fortunately, my second attempt came out just as I’d imagined, leaving me with a nine inch square grid in the center of the page.

Now it was time to start filling in the squares. I decided to place my photo in the center, and then added the black and white acrylic “X” and “O” in neighboring squares, placing the colorful heart 3″ x 4″ tag (slightly trimmed) under the black “O”. I selected two more 3″ x 4″ tags, trimmed those as well to better fit the squares, using the “nothing means more to me” tag as my title and the “details” tag to hold my journaling.

I used the February Kit’s die-cuts, Date StickersSpeech Bubble Stickers and What Happened Stamp to embellish the squares and then, after trimming about 1/4-inch off all the edges, mounted the entire page on a piece of pink and white patterned paper from the “Little Moments” collection (one of my favorite Elle’s Studio collections!)

I love how the February Exclusive Kit inspired me to record this sweet little Valentine memory! I’ll be back next week to show you how I used the same kit for a non-Valentine page.

I love recording stories to capture our memories because I believe that all the little details add up to a big life. You can find me on Instagram as @littlethingsbigdays or on my blog “Little Things, Big Days.”
