Stamping with Jill Sprott

Each month, Elle’s Studio releases a stamp set to accompany its monthly kits. These sets are perfectly timed with the season, but they are also versatile, with images and sentiments that can work with practically any kind of layout. When I set eyes on the April “Perfect Weekend” stamp set and its two circular “yes” and “no” stamps, a journaling idea came to mind right away. I imagined a list of questions or items, each of which could be followed by a “yes” or “no” answer. This layout is the result:

For a while, I’ve been meaning to create a layout centered around this photo, a copy of a Polaroid taken in the early 80’s. I didn’t quite know how to approach it — that is, until I held the April stamp set in my hands.

I began by taking my color cues from the photo and the pie chart tags from the Elle’s Studio Travelogue journaling tags set. After painting the background of the page with a mix of yellow and emerald paint, and assembling the photo and a mix of tags and accents at the top of the page, I drew a grid and added a series of descriptions corresponding to the subjects in the photo.

After writing on the page, I focused on the stamping, first adding initials to each of the columns to match the person just above in the photo, and then filling in a “yes” or “no” answer in each row based on whether the person in the photo fit the description.
