PROJECT LIFE | DOCUMENTING FAMILY HERITAGE

Today I am sharing a family heritage page in my Fall 2015 Project Life album.

In order to explain the details of this layout, I would like to offer a little info on my family history.  My great, great, great uncle was James A. Allison.  He was one of the four founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500 Race.  James Allison also founded a company in 1915 which would later be named Allison Transmission.  This past month Allison Transmission had their Centennial Celebration and invited the family members of James Allison as guests, and put together a very special weekend for us.

James Allison did not have any children of his own. He did however have 5 siblings whom 4 of those went on to have children.  There was a group of about 45 of us that came from all over the country for this special weekend!  How amazing to meet distant relatives from all over the United States!  Individuals from Allison Transmission gave us the VIP treatment all weekend.  We had dinner at the Rolls Royce Factory, visited James Allison’s home and gravesite, and even took a ride around Indianapolis Motor Speedway- so neat!

I began this layout on the back side of my “Our Pool” layout.  I basically repeated the pattern and added 3×3 photos in the same pockets as the other side.  For the backside of the heart, I traced the black and white pattern paper (think checkered flag!) from the Penelope Collection.   A few months ago I purchased Elise Blaha Cripe’s “Get to Work Book” as my daily planner.  When receiving the planner the 3×3 “Big Things Happen” card was included.  I thought this was the perfect addition to documenting the celebration of a 100 year old business.

One of my favorite photos from the event was when they had “look alike’s” of the four founders of the Indianapolis 500.  It was neat to have a side by side photo of this where my children were included in the 2015 version.  (James Allison is on the far right of the black and white photo- so dapper!)

I used many items from the Thankful Collection in this spread.  I stuck with a red and blue theme based on our event name tags— Thankful was perfect for that.  Additionally, Thankful has so many wonderful sentiments and journaling cards that focus on Family and the importance of Family.   This can easily be used to document your family members today or to celebrate your family members from 100 years ago.

IMG_9343Thank you for taking the time to read a bit about my family history.  I hope this inspires you to include your own history in your albums.
