Q: What a fun tutorial! Love your blog Kerry Lynn! Do enjoy doing layouts or altered items better? Which do you feel more inspired to do?
A: Honestly? Most of the time I don’t know what I’m going to create until I sit down at my table. if I’m creating pages I have a photo or a memory or moment that I have been thinking about and just need to document, that I need to get out of my head. if I’m making an altered item it’s usually because I need to make something, anything, I just have an urge to make my hands useful. But I have to say that lately I’m inspired to make altered & collage items. It’s a field of work that never ceases to inspire me to create.

A: Actually, the butterfly punch is from Martha Stewart. 😉

Q: Who are your biggest inspirations in the scrapbooking world?
A: There are so many talented scrappers and artists and I tend to be attracted to a lot of different styles so who I get inspired by always ebbs and flows with where my creativity is focused at the moment, on what style of art I’m currently working with. but I can always depend on Becky Novacek, Heather Bullard, Rebecca Sower, Ruth Rae and I have to say my creative team at Kenner road never ceases to amaze me with their creations.

Q: Are you an organized scrapbooker, or are you a messy scrapbooker? I know I am very messy!
A: I create with organized chaos. There are always piles of some sort around me, whether on my scrap desk or in the kitchen office nook, but I always know where everything is luckily. usually by the end of a week I have stuff strewn all over my desk, and am working upon piles of cut pieces of scrap and vintage bobs & bits, and my desk area is quite small and tucked into a little alcove in our family room, as you can see below.
Unfortunately for my husband I have plans to rectify this situation soon… very, very soon. 😉

A: Anywhere really. I love to go to flea markets, garage sales & the thrift store & you can find a lot of old paper goods to use at any of those places. Things like old sheet music, dictionaries, and children’s books. The older the better.

A: I don’t think I have any scrapbook crushes but there a lot of mixed media artists that I adore. The best class I ever took was from Charlotte Lyons at silverbella in 2007 and I have been a follower of hers ever since. We created a stunning mixed media collage out of fabric remnants and vintage items like bits of jewelry and it was wonderful. I would love to take a class from charlotte again.

Q: How many different books do you have going at once?
A: Altered books? I usually only create them one at a time. I like to just sit with a pile of papers and just see how the book develops. The colors are usually picked first and them all of the odds and bits are selected from there, that way even though it’s eclectic in creation everything flows together.

Q: What size do you like to scrap the best 12×12, 8×8 altered sizes (mini books …?
A: Doesn’t matter to me, just depends on my mood really. But there are times when I start out in one size and realize I just don’t like the design. I’ve started creating 12×12’s and then realized half way through the design would be better as a 8.5 x 11, happens all the time. 😉

Q: Is it 100% important for you to use materials that are archival safe? Is that actual sheet music?
A: Such a good question! I don’t think about archival qualities at all when I create. I love anything old, tattered and worn and in order to get that look in my pages I use found objects and vintage ephemera all of the time.
However, if this is something that concerns you, you can get sprays that will help keep your vintage items archivally safe, I just don’t worry about it personally.

Q: Do you scrapbook chronologically, or by whatever pictures come up as inspiration?
A: I just create as I go. As I said above the picture is usually the beginning of the process for me. To be honest I usually focus on scrapping the everyday random things that happen in my life and in the lives of my family. I don’t usually event scrap because usually the pictures speak for themselves. I want to remember the funny phrases, the things I like today, etc. because those are the things I’ll forget first when I’m old and gray… lol
