Saturday Spotlight : Christine Newman

We’re thrilled to share with you our Saturday Spotlight for August : Christine Newman.  With all the yearly album projects such as Project 365 popping up in online galleries, we love how Christine highlighted her weekly happenings with Elle’s Studio tags.

Christine says, “I love using Elle’s Studio products in my Project Life album because they are totally versatile!  I love the different colors and designs and they all go together beautifully.  Plus, with the digital products, I can print them out and journal by hand, or I can type up my journaling first onto the digital product and then print them out.  Both ways are really great for my album!”
Thanks for sharing your work with us, Christine- we love seeing how ES products can be put to use in an album like this!
Want to be considered for our next Saturday Spotlight? If you create a project featuring Elle’s Studio product that you’d like us to see, please send me an e-mail at : melanie [at] shopellesstudio [dot] com.
Please include the following :
  • A scan/photo of your layout at 490px wide
  • A few sentences about how you created your project
  • A list of the ES products you used

Guest Designer Tutorial : Jen Gallacher

July 2011 Guest Designer : Jen Gallacher
I wanted to share a quick and easy way to stamp on the Elle’s Studio Journaling Tags.
I’m using Memento Black Ink (love this ink), an Elle’s Studio tag, and a Technique Tuesday stamp (addicted to these).
Step 1: Ink the stamp.
Step 2 : Stamp onto the tag.  I suggest placing the tag onto a surface with a slight give like a mouse pad, a paper piercing pad, or a foam pad.
Step 3 : Let dry (and they do seem to dry fairly quickly) before adding it to your project.

Here’s what I made with the finished project :

Sketch Thursday : 8.4.11

Another Thursday, another sketch!  This week’s sketch is based on this layout from ES design team member Stephanie Klauck.  Six photos on a single page layout?  Awesome!  I love how Stephanie seems to effortlessly use ES tags to embellish her projects.

This week’s sketch has room for six photos as Stephanie did.  Or what about including memorabilia in those areas from your last vacation?  Or using this sketch as a jumping point for the Week In The Life album you created last week?

For my layout, I started by rotating the sketch so that the photo strips ran vertically.  Instead of smaller photos, I used four larger ones.  I then moved the placement of my photos to the left to allow for journaling and my title along the right side of the page.  Everyone seems to have fallen in love with that large doily journaling tag and I thought it was the perfect choice for this layout about the art class I took with my daughter earlier this year.
Other product used : Studio Calico’s Napa Valley kit.
Looking for an incentive to use our sketch this week? We can help with that! Post a link to your layout created using this Sketch Thursday sketch for your chance to win a $5 ES gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59p on Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
Gift certificate can be used towards purchase of products only and can NOT be used for shipping charges. Gift certificate balance must be used in a single transaction.
Congratulations to last week’s winner :

What’s new at Elle’s Studio?

Hello, everyone!

Can you believe it’s August already? So far our summer has been pretty mild, and I have to admit, I’m kind of hoping it stays that way… I don’t do very well in the heat 🙂

We have some new things going on around here and I thought today was the perfect day to let you in on them and some other things we have been planning behind the scenes!

PROJECT KITS: In July, Jenni and I attended the CHA show so we could check out all the new products for our future project kits! It was such a blast and so surreal getting to meet everyone – an amazing whirlwind for sure. Stephanie from Bella Blvd. even posted a photo of us! You can check it out here. And, Keshet has a photo of us, too, here. Everyone at the show was so, SO sweet and I cannot wait to go back 🙂

Okay, back to the kits… We’ve been getting a lot of emails asking when the next kit is going to be released, so I wanted to let you know that even though we originally planned for late August, we have to push it back until September. One of the main items in the kit isn’t coming out until September, so we have to wait for it, but I promise you, it is totally worth the wait! As soon as we have a launch date we will announce it here at our blog, and in our newsletter. If you are not on our newsletter list, please sign up now! Make sure you confirm your subscription, too, after you sign up. If you are signed up and have not received our newsletter, it is because the subscription wasn’t confirmed. If this has happened to you, please email me and I will take care of it 😉

Something new with the next Project Kit release is that the pre-sale will be a little bit longer than last time. But, the pre-sale will be available to newsletter subscribers, only, so make sure you are on that list!

Also, the next kit will include printed instructions! No need to worry about printing out the pdf file and saving it! This time, you’ll be able to pull the instructions out of your kit and get started!

WE ARE MOVING! We are so excited to be moving into a larger space to accommodate our growing inventory! In order to make this move speedy and efficient, we have to close the store for about a week. We will be closing the shop from August 22nd to 30th and all orders placed during this time, will start shipping on August 31st. We will also be having a little moving sale during this time, so be on the look out for that!

DESIGN TEAM WEEK: Just wanted to remind you that next week, starting on Monday, we will be featuring each one of our design team members – 7 days full of inspiration, scrap room peeks, and more! We even had them pick out their favorite Elle’s Studio items to give away! It’s going to be a blast!

Whew! I think that about covers it for now… we are so excited that everyone loves the new line we just released and want to thank you again for your orders! We’d love to see what you create with them, so make sure you link us up to your creations so we can check them out 🙂

Oh! One more thing… on Sunday, my favorite little guy is turning one… can you believe it?

I’m so excited to celebrate with him and give him his present 🙂 But I cannot believe how fast time is going and how fast he is growing up… he already took a couple steps!

We hope you all have a great week and we can’t wait for you to see what’s in store!

p.s. Do you scrapbook digitally? If so, then head on over to JessicaSprague.com for their Template Tuesday! We have a free quick page available today that is perfect for summer. It also has a sneak peek of our next line (retired printed line from last year) we are releasing as a digital download very soon.

Try It Tuesday : 8.2.11

What?  Another new blog series?  Yes, your eyes are working just fine!  We’re striving to bring you more inspiration each and every day.  And today is one of those days.
Welcome to Try it Tuesday!  Every other Tuesday, we’ll be challenging you to try something on your next layout.  A technique, a product – anything goes!  We’ll be providing you inspiration from our amazing design team and then asking you to give it a try.  What do you think?

This week’s challenge layout from the July Inspiration Gallery was created by design team member Stephanie Klauck
When I was looking at Stephanie’s layouts this month, I was first drawn to the amazing journaling.  I also loved this one in particular because of the printed journaling on her ES tags.  I journal by hand on pretty much every layout I create but always love the look of typewritten journaling.
This week, we ask you to TRY THIS : use a typewriter or computer to add journaling to your Elle’s Studio tags on your next layout.  Post a link to your layout created from this challenge for your chance to win a $5 ES gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59p on Monday, August 22, 2011.

Design Team Spotlight Week : August 8 – August 14

Mark your calendars and get ready to meet and greet each one of our new design team members! You’ll get to see a special project they each have to share, read their q&a to learn more about them, take a peek into their scrap room, and have a chance to win three of their favorite items here at the ES blog. You’ll also have a chance to win their favorite products by visiting their personal blogs, too!

Each day there will be a new design team member featured, so that means 7 days full of inspiration and giveaways!

It’s going to be one incredible week, we hope you plan to stop by!

July’s Inspiration Gallery Highlights

Something new we are starting is that each month we want to highlight a layout, card or project from the Inspiration Gallery, from each design team member! If you haven’t stopped by the Inspiration Gallery yet, make sure you do! There is a ton of new projects from our new design team and each one is beyond incredible.

We found all of the projects so inspiring and love them all so much, that it made it even harder to pick out just one from each designer to highlight! But, we tried our best and below is just a tiny taste of each designers gallery for July:

Aren’t they amazing?! Love how each one of them used tags from our Handmade Layers collection, but were able to still capture their own style with them! Now, if you haven’t already, make sure you check out their other amazing creations, here!

And, we wanted to give our design team and guest designer a HUGE thank you for keeping us inspired 🙂 all of you are amazing ladies and we appreciate each one of you so much!

Sketch Thursday : 7.28.11

This week marks the first time the work of our new design team is featured on the ES blog – I’m thrilled to be able to share more from them!  This layout, from design team member Marcy Penner, first caught my eye because of it’s subject matter.  I just started running and while I don’t love it, I will admit I always feel so much better after doing it!  Marcy’s layout has so many bits and pieces that drew me in – stitching, splatters of paint – and I love the scalloped edge she created along the left side.

This week”s sketch features two prominent spaces for photos or photos and journaling – your call!  This is the perfect opportunity to dig into your stash of embellishments and tags and put them to work on your layout.

I chose to use both large spaces in the sketch to house photos of my daughter and her much loved aunt.  I positioned my title in the same area but also took a few different twists on my layout.  Instead of three scallops along the left side of the layout, I mimicked the embellishment idea by using three butterflies.  I also chose to put my journaling above one of my photos and tucked ES tags along not only the top but also the bottom of my vertical photo.  To bring everything togther, I created a frame around everything with small strips of cardstock.
Other product used : Studio Calico’s Summer Camp kit.
One glimpse at the bow on this layout from design team member Leslie Ashe and I was smitten!  I love that she substituted ribbon for the piece of cardstock that Marcy used in the original layout.  She included the three scalloped elements with the bow but what an amazing transformation!
Leslie says, “The sketch – in general, totally inspired me to step out of my box. Why you ask? I have a hard time scrapping with sketches. It’s true! Weird, huh?  But really…I love seeing them and what people do with them. So when I get one and get the chance to work with them – it’s me, stepping out of my creation box with a little “nudge” if you can say.  I had a blast with this one – the circles are my faves. I LOVE scrapping with circles.”
Looking for an incentive to use our sketch this week? We can help with that! Post a link to your layout created using this Sketch Thursday sketch for your chance to win a $5 ES gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59p on Wednesday, August 3, 2011.

Take Out Tuesday : 7.26.11

Oh how I love the new ES products that arrived on my doorstep last week!  It was easy to use four different ES products on this layout.

For today’s Take Out Tuesday, I used three vertical 4×6 photos.  I still had room for journaling, a title and embellishments and was able to complete this layout quickly.  You’ll notice that I used two ES tags to house embellishments – tags don’t always have to be for journaling!

Elle’s Studio products used : Scalloped Journaling Tags – Black and White, Lil’ Snippets: Date, Lil’ Snippets: Days of the Week – Friday and Lil’ Snippets: Labeled – Red & Pink.

Other product used : Studio Calico’s Singin’ In The Rain kit.

July Guest Designer : Jen Gallacher

As our July Inspiration Gallery went live yesterday, you no doubt were able to see the amazing work of our newest seven member design team.  What?  You saw the work from eight highly creative ladies?

Your eyes didn’t deceive you – there are eight!  Each month, we’ll bring a special Guest Designer on board to create alongside our talented design team.  A new face for our design team, but without a doubt the same inspiration you’ve come to expect from us.

Elle’s Studio is thrilled to welcome our July Guest Designer, Jen Gallacher.  I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jen in the past and am so happy to have her sharing her work with us.  She is one of the most amazingly kind people you could ever hope to meet in this industry.

Jen says, “I began working in the scrapbooking industry in 1998 designing for PaperKuts Magazine. From there I designed for a variety of companies including Making Memories, Li’l Davis Designs, and Little Yellow Bicycle. My true passion is writing and I began writing a monthly article for Scrapbook Trends magazine a few years ago. Since then I’ve moved on as the Creative Editor for both Create Magazine and Cricut Magazine and Idea Books and as the Contributing Editor for Scrapbook Trends Magazine. I also serve as one of the contributing writers for both the Northridge Publishing Create blog and Echo Park Paper’s blog. Besides writing, I enjoy designing for American Crafts and serving as a Garden Girl for Two Peas in a Bucket. In my free time (if there is such a thing), I like to ride my bike and read and spend time with my two children and husband.”

I asked Jen a few questions so you could learn a bit more about this amazing scrapbooker :

Name : Jen Gallacher
Location : Utah

Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?
My Sister dragged me to a class in 1996 and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Where do you scrapbook?
In my office, which is upstairs near all the bedrooms so I can somewhat hear and respond to any emergencies.
What do you listen to/watch while scrapbooking?
I love listening to the “Weekly Warehouse Walk” videos from Two Peas in a Bucket while I work. Weird. Right? But something about them soothes me and helps me create.
What are three products you can’t live without?
  1. buttons
  2. twine
  3. stamps
What are three facts about you that others might not now?
  1. I am afraid of flying.
  2. I play the piano and sometimes accompany the church singing when asked.
  3. I am completely addicted to Plain and Peanut M&M’s and I should probably consider buying stock in the company.
What are your three favorite ES products?
  1. Come to Mama!: 2011 Monthly Pennants
  2. Numbers slay me: Mix & Match Vintage Number Tags – set of 31 – Turquoise
  3. Weak in the knees for these: Chic Date Tags – Brights
Thanks again to Jen for sharing her work with us this month!
Would you like a chance to win Jen’s favorite Elle’s Studio products?  We’d love to give them to you!  Simply visit the July Inspiration Gallery and let us know which of Jen’s projects you enjoyed most, found inspiring, etc.  We’ll select one commenter at random to receive Jen’s three favorite ES products.  Comment must be posted by 11:59p on Saturday, July 30, 2011.
