PROJECT LIFE

Patriotic-Banner

Today I am sharing my Project Life spread from May 19-May 25:  Memorial Day weekend!Image 2

Memorial Day weekend is a huge weekend of remembrance and honor for everyone.   I live in Indianapolis, so Memorial Day weekend is also when the Indy 500 occurs- which is a big weekend here.  Our city makes this event very honoring to those who have paid the ultimate price for freedom.   It’s a neat weekend to live in Indy.

Image 1

I used our Patriotic mini collection to highlight Memorial Day weekend and the Indy 500 in my Project Life album (among other things that happened this week!)

Image 3I used pieces from our new Shine collection (I love that wood grain paper!) and paired it with one of the Patriotic journaling cards for my date card.

The wood veneer American Flag (from the Patriotic Wood Veneers) is just fabulous.  It was the perfect compliment to my Memorial Day weekend documentation.

Patriotic Week : Mixed Media Monday

Patriotic-Banner

We are starting off Patriotic Week with a bang!

I’ve got two amazing Elle’s Studio gals with me today; and we’re getting messy on this month’s installment of Mixed Media Monday!
First up, Elle Price!

Elle-01 For this layout, I started with making the background. I took the Patriotic
wood veneers and put them around my photo, on the 12 x 12 paper. Then I
lifted my photo off and sprayed the areas where the wood veneers where with
white mist. After it dried I lifted the wood veneers off and turned them
over (so the wood side showed, since they were white now on one side) and
glued them back on, along with the other papers and tags, to create a fun
layered look!Elle-02 Elle-03What a quick and easy way to create a unique background! Thank you Elle!

Products used : Saltwater Paper, Love You More Paper, Patriotic Journaling Tags, Patriotic Wood veneers, May 2014 Kit

Daniela Dobson is joining us once again this month with a beautiful card.

I used a mask and modeling paste. I added watercolor to the background around the modeling paste.

Products Used : Patriotic Exclusive Stamp, Patriotic Journaling Tags, April Digital Cut File

I incorporated the Patriotic Collection into my Project Life album highlighting a fun little challenge called the “Polar Plunge”.

photo-1I used the Patriotic Exclusive Stamp set and my favorite paint dabber to add a bit more color to my page. I love how the stamps look with paint!photo-2photo-2-copy photo-1-copyYou may notice I also used the packaging from the Patriotic Stamp set and the Tag kit on my page!photo-4The tiny tag images found on the packaging of the Tag kit work perfect as little accent pieces! Transparencies are a great way to add depth to a design without adding extra bulk. IMG_9592

Lay the transparencies directly over a photo to add text in the “white space” like I did below using the “I’ll Treasure This Forever” piece from the SHINE collection.IMG_9595

The stars in the mini Patriotic collection offers a great variety that can be used for everyday layouts such as the one I am sharing here today.IMG_9598 IMG_9599 IMG_9601

PatrioticInspirationWeekThe next few samples I pulled from my Project Life album. This is one place in particular I love to use the transparencies. Making a Hybrid Layout using PNG files with Jennifer Chapin

jenchapin_maykit (1)

Happy Friday, everyone! We have an awesome video tutorial to share with you today from Jennifer Chapin! In this video, she shows you how you can use the PNG files that come in our digital cut files to make a background for your layout! She also gives a great tip on how she got it to coordinate with our May exclusive kit. Check out the video below, or click here to watch it on YouTube.

Sketch Thursday

Today’s sketch is inspired by Jenny’s Love This!  layout from this month’s gallery.

sketch 05.22

We have two very talented ladies play with the sketch this week!

Kay using our new collection called Shine:

RogersSketch (1 of 3)

RogersSketch (2 of 3)

I was inspired by the grid approach, but wanted rectangles rather than squares. These are pics from a camping trip a few years back . . . makes me long for summer! And Shine is the perfect collection to capture the greatness of summer.

Valerie also using pieces from our new Shine collection:

I flipped the sketch on it’s side and drew my squares on my cardstock similar to the original sketch. I then watercolored in and around each box, then handstitched around the original square that I drew (eliminating my having to try to erase the pencil lines that I first drew).  I was going to insert small photos and embellishments into each square, but when I was looking through my photos, I loved the way the photos of my kitty standing outside in the sun (that I already had printed) looked with the colors I had chosen to use on my layout. The new Shine Collection has been calling my name ever since I received it, so I couldn’t resist using it as accents on my page! I used some of the new stamps , wood veneer, and a piece of the beautiful floral transparency which I cut into small squares to fit into each of the aqua watercolor spots. The white letters are also new to Elle’s Studio and I know they will be a staple that I will need keep stocked in my stash as I love the look and size of them! What started out as an almost literal scraplift of the original layout (at least in my mind) – with it just flipped on it’s side – turned into something totally different – but I love the way it came together and became my own take!

For a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Shop create a project inspired by this sketch, upload it to our Member Gallery and post a link here. A random winner will be selected and announced with next week’s sketch.

PROJECT LIFE

Today’s Project Life covers the week of May 5-11.Image 4

I am really loving the concept of simplicity right now in my Project Life album… and I am also loving enlarged photos.  Finding that perfect photo to display is a wonderful way to highlight a specific moment in your week.   This photo of my daughter feeding our chickens is something that happens nearly everyday— a common sight.  I just love how it shows how much she loves them!

Image 3

I had the opportunity to use Elle’s new collection Shine in this spread— i LOVE this color scheme.  I am always a fan of woodgrain- and the woodgrain paper and alphabet stickers in this collection are fantastic…

Image 2

I love that this is a Spring themed spread (mother’s day) but I was able to use a Summer collection… Elle always designs her collections to be super versatile no matter the season.

OUR KIT + YOUR STASH

Hello everyone! I’m happy to be back with another edition of Our kit + Your stash, where we show you how well Elle’s Studio products mix with your stash at home and hopefully inspire you to scrap.

kitMay

Today, I mixed Elle’s Studio’s May Kit with Echo Park papers, Lawn Fawn’s stamps and dies & Elle’s Studio Everyday Collection.

happy chatterbox1

I started by combining speech bubbles… some I cut from the Say What? paper in the Everyday Collection and the other ones I die cut from other different patterns. I included different shapes, stamped, inked and pop dotted them randomly.

happy chatterbox2

To highlight the picture, I layered a couple of frames and added a little banner and flower cut out.  Finally, I combined a wood veneer phrase with letter stickers for the title.
