Cards with our November Kit by Meghann Andrew

Hi! It’s Meghann here with you today. The November kit is so versatile. I’ve already created two layouts and two cards, in a variety of themes, and I still have tags left to create more projects! Today I’m here to show you two different cards I created with the kit:

This card is perfect to accompany your Thankgiving hostess gift! I created a flat card with a pocket, using one of the 3” x 4” tags from the kit and my sewing machine. The background was stamped with the utensil stamp from the Happy Holidays stamp set, and to create the tag in the pocket, I used the “Together” paper from the Thankful collection, and the tag topper stamp from the Tradition stamp set. The entire card only took me about 10 minutes to put together, and my Thanksgiving hostess will feel so special receiving it.

This fun card is perfect for tucking in your honey’s coat pocket on a cold day! The main element on this card, the sequin shaker, was created with the heart cut file from the November digital cut file, which I cut twice, once with the outline, which I backed with acetate, and another as a solid heart, so I could use that as the base of the shaker. I also added white snowflakes to the base to add additional texture. After the shaker was made, I simply layered it with the “baby it’s cold outside” tag, on top of the grey background tag, which I sewed the “so many kisses” tag to, and the It’s Snowing paper.

Hopefully I’ve made you look at the tags in your November exclusive kit in a different way- to use as simple and impressive cards!

Joyful Collection Spotlight by Michelle Wedertz

This past holiday season I was able to take several fun pictures of my family during our trip to the tree lot. The weather was beautiful, my children were all happy, and Santa Claus even made an appearance. I really could not have asked for a better set of pictures and when I sat down to create this next layout I wanted to find a way to include all of my favorites on one layout.

After spending some time brainstorming and browsing Pinterest, I committed to creating an accordion style mini-album that would be attached to the layout underneath the main photo. One of my main reasons for choosing the accordion style was that I would be able to size each “page” 3×4 inches, making it super simple to include journaling cards in the design. Here’s a look at the completed layout that I put together using the Joyful Collection:

This layout has my favorite look to it-it’s layered, lots of stitching, a variety of textures, and dimension. However, this layout contains a surprise-remove the star paper clip and there are more pictures and journaling inside!

I really, really enjoyed putting this project together and surprisingly, it came together pretty quickly! The new-to-me technique and the festive papers and embellishments really made for a fun time!

Sketch Thursday

Happy Thursday, everyone! We have another great sketch for you if you are looking for some inspiration for today or the weekend! Today’s sketch was based off of Jill’s Home Remedy layout and today we’ve asked Kay to play along with us!

Kay says “I loved the rectangular arrangement of items on Jill’s layout, so I used that as a starting point. Rather than making a grid, I made a larger rectangle with papers from the “Thankful” line, as well as popping the photos off the page for more interest. I then embellished to draw interest to the photos.”

PROJECT LIFE

Today I am sharing a spread in my Project Life album using the Elle’s Studio November 2015 Kit.

This spread focuses on when I went to Churchill Downs with my sister and her bridesmaids to celebrate her upcoming wedding. There were so many photos, memorabilia, and journaling that I wanted to devote an entire layout to this event. It’s nice to have that flexibility with this system of documenting!

I primarily used the Elle’s Studio November 2015 Kit, along with bits and pieces of the Thankful Collection. I also incorporated our ticket to the race track along with the invitation for our weekend. Since a picture of our whole group wouldn’t crop to fit the 3×3 square, I printed the image as a 3×6 and trimmed it to fit into two pockets. This was the perfect product to document our girls weekend!

Inspired by our November Course with Michelle Wedertz

This month, I had the fun task of creating a project inspired by November’s Exclusive Mini-Course. When I sat down to view the PDF file containing the class content, I was super motivated by the wealth of information and ideas that the three designers had to offer. After jotting down some notes and thoughts and gathering my November Kit, I went to work.

This course had me looking at my embellishments a little bit differently. For example, instead of keeping the “Joy” wood veneer plain, I misted it with gold spray. The difference this made was subtle, but noticeable. I also tried this technique with the vellum snowflakes from the November Kit; after spraying them just once with the gold mist and letting them dry, I placed them under a heavy book for a few minutes to help flatten them back out. The sparkle that the gold mist gave to both the wood veneer and snowflake made this extra step worth it!

I also picked my patterned paper with a little more care, choosing to compliment a square punched from one of the journaling cards from the kit with patterned paper from the Joyful Collection.

Overall, this course inspired me to look at my supplies a little more closely. I took greater care with paper selection and color. I also looked for new ways to alter my embellishments as opposed to letting them stand as is. The November Mini-Course was so inspiring that I was able to create this layout quickly and without any fuss.

Documenting Monthly Lists with Daniela

Welcome to the Elle’s Studio blog post today. It’s Daniela here to share a project highlighting the November 2015 Exclusive kit.

Earlier this year I found a group of ladies on Instagram that made monthly lists and had monthly challenges. I needed a place for my monthly lists so I created a notebook that is the same size as the standard insert for the Traveler’s Notebook. I was thinking how this year I would like to combine my love of listing and documenting December. Some days might be just lists and some days might be just documenting, but I want something in there and I wanted something a little different that just a mini album for December Daily.

This is just a piece of Kraft cardstock filled with nine sheets of printer paper folded in half (approximate size: 4.30″ x 8.25″). You can vary the type of paper you place inside, lined, watercolor, sketch… I used a saddle stitch and red thread to sew the notebook together. I decorated the front with some snowflakes (modeling paste and a stencil) and my November kit. I added bits and pieces from Joyful Collection. I used Tis The Season Stamp Set for the tree, that I stamped in vellum and the year stamped on the bottom.

For the inside pages I will basically follow this design. Date (stamped with the Tis The Season stamp) with washi and stamping on the top and on the bottom (with the Happy Holidays stamp set and Joyful stamp set) and then my main journaling tag or photo with journaling in the middle. Simple and easy to do. December is busy for us and I hope that this simple design will make it easy to take the time daily and record the moments from the day.

I have gathered some items from November kit, Joyful Collection and my other favorite stamps from Elle’s Studio. I stamped and/or punched all the numbers for the full month. I went into my stash for twine, sequins and washi tape.

I placed all my needed supplies in a Antonius basket insert that sits on top of my Raskog cart. Everything I will need is all together and I can bring it out and move it to wherever I am to record my December memories.

Here is my very first notebook I created back in April. I used bits and pieces from other Exclusive kits and Cienna Collection.

Disney Documented by Jill Sprott

There is a whole wide world to explore, but when it comes to traveling, my family prefers to believe that it is a small world (after all), and inevitably chooses to visit their favorite destination: Disneyland (and once, Disney World). When my daughter graduated from high school, she was — surprise, surprise! — gifted with a trip to Disneyland. I documented one of the highlights of our trip with a four-photo layout.

Sometimes, to truly capture the spirit of a moment, you need more than a single photo. The four photos on this layout individually and collectively tell the story of my daughter’s meet-and-greet with Mickey Mouse, which unexpectedly turned into a dance party of sorts. From start to finish, the photos depict that magical moment.

To ensure that I could fit four photos on the page without making it feel crowded, I sized each photo to 4.5 x 3 before printing them. When arranging the photos on the page, I angled the photos slightly and varied their placement in terms of height, and used vertical patterned strips from the Elle’s Studio Thankful collection as photo mats. The patterns and colors were selected to pick up the colors in the photos. The primary color scheme, like the photos, is lively and playful.

By keeping the design relatively simple, I was able to showcase four photos and successfully document one of our favorite Disney moments ever.

Wonder and Joy Card by Daniela Dobson

Welcome to the Elle’s Studio blog today. It’s Daniela here to share a card I made using our brand new Joyful collection and a TINY bit of the Exclusive November kit that will be available on November 10th. In addition, I used Tis The Season stamp set. I love that tree and I decided to stamp it on white cardstock.

I inked the stamp only once, but I stamped it three times and each time I got a different impression and color. I love that. I fussy cut the trees and added them to the center of my card. The main tree, or the one in the front, is adhered using foam adhesive for dimension and so that it stands out.

I added a perfect sentiment, a star to the tree and tucked a twine bow. The base of the card is covered with patterned paper from Joyful collection. The ink for the tree matched the papers perfectly!
