Scrapbook Layout with special guest Jen Chapin

For this month’s guest, we choose a long-time friend of Elle’s Studio, a designer who has graced us with her bold and colorful designs on our past design team, and who’s style is unmistakable in a gallery line-up. Please welcome Jen Chapin as the September guest! Today she’s sharing a simple, yet stunning layout that you can create yourself with a few Elle’s Studio products, so be sure to “pin” this project to your inspiration board!

ellesstudio-jenchapin-02

This layout started with the beautiful 3” x 4” rainbow chevron tag from the September exclusive kit, which I paired with a recent photo of my sister and I, printed in black and white to allow the colors in the tag to shine, and my photo to stand out against all of the color on the page. Originally, I thought this layout was going to be 8-1/2” x 11”, but after I placed the photos onto my 12” x 12” cardstock, I knew I wanted the extra white space.

ellesstudio-jenchapin-03Supplies used: September exclusive kit, Awesome acrylic, Autumn acrylic stars, Sunny Days 12” x 12” paper collection.

After building my focal piece with the tag and photo, backed with the Sunny Days Adventures woodgrain paper, I added the “awesome” acrylic piece and the “so good” ephemera. I love the way they pop against the bright colors in the tag.

ellesstudio-jenchapin-01

Below the woodgrain paper, I added a block of plain vellum to my background that was punched with a star punch. Inside the punched stars, I added the Autumn acrylic stars, and in the negative space, strips of typed journaling.

ellesstudio-jenchapin-try-this

To frame my photo mat and the tone-on-tone vellum block, I added patterned paper strips from the Sunny Days 12” x 12” paper collection to the top and bottom of my page. After adhering the strips, I used my sewing machine to add some texture. A few splatters of mist and my layout was complete!

Hi everyone! My name is Jen Chapin and I am so happy to be guest designing at Elle’s Studio! Fun fact: my very first manufacturer design team was actually here! I have been scrapbooking for ten years, and throughout that time have worked in many different capacities within the industry. I am currently designing for Studio Calico and Citrus Twist Kits. I also teach classes at Big Picture Classes. I am a nurse by trade, and work full time at a hospital about 50 minutes from where we live. My husband and I have two kids, Keira (7) and Connor (4). I am also going back to school right now for my master’s degree in nursing, so life is pretty crazy! When I have spare time (haha) I like to scrapbook, try new recipes, listen to audiobooks, or watch scrapbooking videos on YouTube. I am excited to be here and look forward to bringing you some more projects later this month!

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful layout with us, Jen! Find more of Jen’s work on YouTube, Instagram, her gallery and blog, and watch out for her next guest post here on the Elle’s Studio blog!

Documenting Everyday Favorites by Jill Sprott

As we set about to document our lives, photos of us help to tell our stories, but so do photos of the everyday objects that are part of our lives. The following page showcases a few of the items that my daughter has with her practically at all times.

EllesStudio-The-Details-ES-Jill-LO-BLOGSupplies used: Elle’s Studio September Kit (coming September 10th); Work Hard Journaling Tags; Sunny Days Paper Collection, Sunny Days Small Blank Labels; Documented Stamp, Documented Journaling Tags; Travelogue Labels; Good Stuff Puffy Stickers; Cienna Paper Collection

Putting the page together started with compiling the objects and photographing each one on a white cardstock backdrop.

I then edited the photos in Photoshop, adjusting the lighting to reduce shadows and make the colors brighter. Two of my favorite tools (used liberally with the photos here) are the free (!) Pioneer Woman “Bring Out the Eyes!” and “Boost” actions.

Glasses-BLOG

After editing each photo individually, I resized each one to 3” x 3”, compiled them in one file, and printed them out on a sheet of 8.5” x 11” photo paper.

All-Pics-Together-BLOG

After cutting out the photos, I arranged them on a few layered sheets of Elle’s Studio patterned paper, and then I turned my attention to the journaling, which I printed on some labels. Since the width of most of the labels was a little over 2”, I set the margins of a word processing document to a similar width, and composed the journaling with those parameters in mind.

Journaling-Setup-BLOG

With eight photos on the page, the center block remained open, so I made it my title block, including layers of tags from the September kit as well as the Work Hard and Documented collections.

EllesStudio-The-Details-det-BLOG

The final touch was to add a little zig-zag stitching to each of the labels.

EllesStudio-The-Details-ES-Jill-LO-BLOG

Now I’m thinking of creating a layout like this for each member of our family — including the pets! No longer will I look past the objects that say so much about us.

A sneak peek at what is coming to our shop on September 10th!

Documenting Summer Reading with Jamie Leija

ES-JamieLeija-CurrentlyReading01

Hiya, it’s Jamie! Aside from scrapbooking, reading is my No. 2 favorite hobby. I love getting lost in other places and times, stepping into other worlds and character’s lives. Which was why I was so excited about the new Read products, especially that stamp set! I knew they would be perfect for updating my 2016 album with more of the books that I’ve read this year. I documented the first half of the year in past spreads and this one covers my summer reads.

ES-JamieLeija-CurrentlyReading03Products Used: Read Stamp, Read Journaling Tags, Read Wood Veneers, Sunny Days Puffy Stickers, and May 2016 Monthly Kit.

I used the stamp set to embellish the 3×4 journaling tags, adding glasses and the “Read This” circle stamp. I also added a label and included the “I love a good story” sentiment. One of the books I read over the summer isn’t one I’d recommend. I didn’t want to highlight it, so slipped a 3×4 piece of vellum into the pocket and stamped “favorite” over it. I hand wrote “not my” on top.

ES-JamieLeija-CurrentlyReading05

The rest of the embellishing was really minimal. I added one of the wood veneer labels on top of the page protector and finished it with an acrylic star. I also added two tiny puffy stars—one to the label and the other to the “Eat, Read, Sleep, Repeat” card.

ES-JamieLeija-CurrentlyReading04

I know I’ll be using these products until they run out! Because documenting my book lists have become one of my favorite type of projects. We’d love to see how you’re document your favorite books – make sure you use the hashtag #EllesStudio when sharing on Instagram!

In Your Planner with Maggie Massey

Hey everyone! Maggie here with a peek inside my September planner pages! Wow…September?! Can you even believe it?

For this project I’ve decorated my September “Month-At-A-Glance” pages in my ban.do agenda…

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-aSUPPLIES: August 2016 Kit, Notes From Today Stamp, Good Times Wood Veneer Flags, Sunny Days Bit & Pieces, Sunny Days Puffy Stickers, Sunny Days Word Labels, Sunny Days Patterned Paper, Letter & Number Stickers: Red, Teal, Mint

These two pages are probably the pages I use more than any others in my entire planner each month…I keep EVERYTHING on these two pages…everything…and I rarely flip to the daily pages. So I love to have them look a little dressed-up…

To begin, I wrote in all of the things I already know I need to remember…

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-b
…and then I started to decorate…

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-c
I love the little embellishments that come in every kit…they are the perfect size for my pages.

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-d
I keep my planner on a small desk in my kitchen – and it, inevitably, becomes a catch-all for all of my receipts, mail & scraps that I accumulate through the month. So, in an effort to be a bit more organized with all of these little bits, I created a little pocket with a scrap of my favorite patterned paper.

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-eEllesStudio-MaggieMassey-f
I simply folded the paper in half, adhered the two sides together at the bottom and used my Cinch to make the holes. Then I cut a small slit from the side of the new pocket to each hole so that I could just place the pocket around the binder coil.

At the end of the month, I’ll simply take everything out of the pocket and file it away.

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-gEllesStudio-MaggieMassey-h
For the second half of my spread I added a few more little embellishments and did some stamping with the darling little circle stamps in the Notes From Today stamp.

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-i

I often cut up the cards that come in the kits and use smaller parts of them in my projects…it’s really one of my favorite ways to use up the cards in my kits.

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-j
The darling little yellow striped circles and the word “SUMMER” are all from 3×4 cards in the August kit … I just love the way they all look on my page!

EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-k EllesStudio-MaggieMassey-l
Thank you so much for taking a look today! I hope I’ve inspired you to flip that page on your calendar and get started on your September pages! We would love to see what you are working on – Make sure you use the #EllesStudio hashtag when sharing on Instagram for a chance to be featured on our feed!

In Your Planner with Andrea Gray

We have so enjoyed having Andrea Gray as the Elle’s Studio guest designer this month. Her fun, bright style just makes us want to create something! She’s already shared a pocket page spread and a traditional scrapbook layout, and today, she’s sharing her final project with us: a super-useful planner spread that shows you just how versatile ES exclusive kits and collections can be!

Hi again friends, it’s Andrea here for the final time this month! For my last project I would like to share my planner! I love mixing pockets pages into my planner, so the 3” x 4” tags from the August exclusive kit were perfect for creating a quick and easy dashboard! I plan to use a dry erase marker and write directly on top of the to-do list pocket, so I can use it over and over again!

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-25EllesStudio-AndreaGray-32
Next, I went directly to my monthly planner pages. I decided on a few colors I wanted to work with and pulled labels from the Sunny Days word labels, small blank labels and small embellishments from the Sunny Days bits and pieces pack along with the Notes from Today and Work Hard stamp sets, inks, washi and alphas.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-26
The first step was to add the day numbers. I decided to use the small circle stamp from the Notes from Today stamp to add some color around the number. In addition, I used a different color for August than I did for September so that visually I could see where one month ended and the other began.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-27
Decorating is the best part! I used a Sunny Days word label and teal letter and number stickers for the month and a small tag under it. Then for the individual days, I wrote directly onto the planner page or onto a tiny tag, which I adhered to the page. This adds dimension and interest, but for me, it helps for certain things to visually stand out above everything else.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-28
I also used some of the open space to throw in a few additional embellishments.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-29EllesStudio-AndreaGray-30
Once I had everything penned, glued and labelled, I was ready to head into August and September with a visual of everything that’s happening – and it’s pretty to look at!

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-31
For a walk-through video of my planner spread, please check out this video!

AndreaGrayHi & hello from Northern California! You might know me around the crafty world as retrohipmama and I am super stoked to be a guest designer this month! Outside of scrapbooking I love to do different crafty things, jump on the trampoline with my two boys, scroll Instagram (I’m always there so follow me @retrohipmama), eat dark chocolate, have conversations with my husband in movie quotes or song lyrics and watch football. I am currently on the Illustrated Faith and Gossamer Blue design teams and love inspiring others to make stuff! My style has definitely evolved over the almost 20 years I have been memory keeping, but my layouts always come out clean and colorful and full of stories. This summer I am teaching myself piano and going on a lot of different crafty adventures!

Be sure to follow Andrea at her blog, on Facebook, and YouTube. Thank you, Andrea, for sharing your gorgeous projects with us!

Using our kits as a story prompt with Meghann Andrew

A lot of times, going through the tags in my Elle’s Studio exclusive kit reminds me of other supplies in my stash and a story that needs to be told, and before I know it, I’ve completed a layout I love and documented an important memory.

The August exclusive kit and Everyday printables included 3” x 4” tags covered with stars, and they prompted me to pull out a photo of my daughter from a trip to the Johnson Space Center last year.

EllesStudio-MeghannAndrew-OutOfThisWorldScrapbookLayout-01Supplies | August exclusive kitEveryday printablesAugust digital cut filesSunny Days bits and piecesGood Times wood veneer flagsheart circle acrylicsletter and number stickers- tealacrylic stars- patriotic mix

I decided to cut a large circle using the Sunny Days Documented paper, to match the large NASA logo in my photo. This is where I placed my title, created from chipboard alphas, Elle’s Studio letter stickers and the “adventure” tag from the Sunny Days bits and pieces.

EllesStudio-MeghannAndrew-OutOfThisWorldScrapbookLayout-02
Using all of these lovely stars reminded me of a rocket die-cut that I had in my stash, and I wanted it to look as though it was flying around my patterned paper circle. I adhered it using dimensional adhesive, then added a trail of stars behind it using the acrylic stars- patriotic mix, the teal heart circle acrylics, the stars from the August digital cut files, and a few enamel dots.

EllesStudio-MeghannAndrew-OutOfThisWorldScrapbookLayout-03
The Theodore Roosevelt quote tag was perfect for this layout, and to the right of it, I layered a Sunny Days bits and pieces teal circle with a rocket flair button on top.

EllesStudio-MeghannAndrew-OutOfThisWorldScrapbookLayout-04
This simple design makes a big impact, and it was all inspired by tags in my August exclusive kit. What stories will this kit prompt you to document today?
