Sketch Day with Katarina Prevendarova

Happy sketch day! Today design team member Katarina Prevendarova is here to share a new sketch with a fun border and loads of possibilities, along with a gorgeous new page that she created using the May 2020 kit and add-ons! Let’s take a look at our latest sketch & Katarina’s inspiration!

Hi Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Katarina here and today is a sketch day on the blog! Here is the sketch I used today:

And this is the layout I created:

This page tells a fun story from our ski trip in Italy back in February. I ordered my son a pizza margherita for kids and to my surprise, the pizza came with a ton of fries. I was not too happy about it, but obviously my son was totally excited and really enjoyed this crazy (for me) combination! Next time I need to make sure I read the menu properly!

Supplies | May 2020 Kit, May 2020 Cut Files, Cerulean Blue Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Black Typewriter Cardstock Alphabet StickersAcrylic Stars, Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack, Currently Icon Stamp, Jane Alphabet Stamp, Mini Dated Stamp

I started with creating a star border using the May 2020 Cut Files, cutting it in smooth, white cardstock and backing it with the blue dotted paper from the Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack. I put the white inner parts of the stars back on the blue paper using foam adhesive to add some dimension.

As there are no rules when using a sketch, I made a bunch of adjustments to fit my style and the ideas I had in mind. I made the central part of the layout a little smaller to fit inside the border. I chose three patterned papers from the Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack to back my two photos and layered them following the sketch.

I liked my title better on the right side, and as my photos were pretty busy I didn’t lay it over one of them but rather placed it on the side. To put the title together I combined the Cerulean Blue Puffy Alphabet Stickers with the Black Typewriter Cardstock Alphabet Stickers. As a finishing touch I stamped the little cutlery from the Currently Icon Stamp with grey ink.

As I moved the title to the right, I also swapped the elements at the bottom half of my layout. I placed two die cuts from the May Kit under the title—I used the Currently Icon and Jane Alphabet Stamp to add our location on one of them with blue ink.

Inspired by the sketch, I added my hand-written journaling on strips of paper. One of the journaling tags from the May Kit was just perfect for this purpose. I cut out the little frames with arrows and ordered them from top to bottom. I used the Currently Icon Stamp again to add “this happened” and a little pizza icon to the top and the Mini Dated Stamp to add the date to the very bottom. The last thing I added were the cute, little Acrylic Stars. I love these acrylic shapes so much—they’re always one of my favorites!

I hope this beautiful sketch, my layout and the fantastic May 2020 kit and add-ons inspires you to grab your scissors and do some crafting this weekend. Need more sketches to get you going?
