Hello! Michelle here with you today to share some ideas on how to use journaling cards and tags as prompts for story telling. The journaling cards and tags in the monthly kits certainly function to provide you with the space to tell your stories. However, they can also help inspire the topic or the direction that you take your journaling.
More times than not, when I pick a photo out to scrap I already have my story in mind and I will pick the supplies that will most compliment the particular story I have to tell. Occasionally though, it’s fun to work backwards and let the products inspire my story. For example, I often look through the phrases or sentiments on the cards and tags as a source of inspiration for titles or even as a jumping off point for my journaling.
For today’s layout, I pulled out the cards and tags from the September Kit and scanned them, making mental notes of the words and phrases that stood out to me. What spoke to me the most were the phrases like “Love These Photos,” “So Much Love,” and “I treasure these moments together.” These thoughts led me to think about my children and how much fun it is to be around them and I wanted to created a layout expressing this. Here is what I came up with:
Supplies: Letters and Numbers: Pink; Acrylic Star; Sunny Days: Stamp, 12×12 Patterned Paper; and Exclusive September Kit.
Prompted by the journaling cards and tags, my goal was to create a page that told the story of how my children fill my life with love and laughter on pretty much an everyday basis. To do this I went straight to my phone and picked out three recent photos that I thought would best represent these qualities and went to work using both the September Kit and the Sunny Days collection.
For someone like me who scraps mostly chronologically, this technique is a huge game changer. By looking to journaling cards for inspiration, I pushed myself outside my comfort zone and ended up with a fun story that might not have otherwise made it into my album. This layout was actually quite a joy to put together and I will definitely be doing this again!
