If you’ve ever struggled to put together colors and patterns on a project, the Sunny Days collection and June exclusive kit work together to help take the guesswork out of your design, and Emily Spahn is once again here to show us how beautiful the combination can be! Let’s take a look:
Hi everyone! It’s Emily here again with another summery project that features the brand new Sunny Days collection, the exclusive June Kit, and some exclusive add-ons!
Have you ever opened a box of brand new product, only to immediately fall in love with a piece that you knew just had to be used? That was me when I came across the adorable 3” x 4” smiley sun tag included in the June Kit. This little tag is perfect! I knew right away that I wanted to include it on a layout. As it turns out, I designed this entire layout around that sweet little sun!
As I somewhat discussed in my previous post, I always approach layouts with a very clear color scheme in mind. In this case, the sunny tag used warm colors of pink, red, orange, and yellow. Even though my photo has some cool colors in it, I wanted the layout to include only the same warm colors featured on the sun tag. I also included some gray as my “other than white” neutral! I went “shopping” through all of the fabulous Elle’s Studio product on hand and pulled out matching papers from the Sunny Days 6” x 6” paper stack and 12” x 12” paper collection. I experimented layering different paper options until I settled on three that I liked together. I also included the orange “Hello Sunshine” label from the Sunny Days word labels because I needed bit more orange.
I added my photo (a single 4” x 6” of my kids and some friends on the last day of school) and my beloved sun tag to the layout, and then I just added and embellished until it felt complete. I had hoped to use my die cut machine to create a fun title, but sadly, I had some technical difficulties and was unable to get it to work! Luckily I had the fun white “You are my Sunshine” Sunny Days acrylic that worked perfectly as a title!
Next to the sun tag, I think the Sunny Days puffy stickers were my favorite embellishment in this new line. I included the fun coordinating banner on my layout. I also added a bunch of little things like the red heart, the pink tag, and the yellow “favorite photos” tab from the Sunny Days bits and pieces, and a bunch of the fun summer mix acrylic stars. True confession – the pink star on the bottom of the left of the sun tag was put there primarily to cover a dirty spot, but it totally works there!
The very last thing I added to my page was the overlapping paper strips at the very top and a piece of the yellow and orange “summer” tag from the June kit. After completing my layout, I realized that the very top had maybe a little bit too much white space, so I went ahead and added a bit of color as a border along the top – you can never have too much color, right?!
I am completely in love with the fun, summery feel of this layout. I love that I used the exact same product lines on this layout as I did for my previous layout – yet they feel completely different. This just goes to show how versatile Elle’s Studio products are! A huge thanks to Elle for having me this month. It was an honor!
Hi! I’m Emily Spahn and I’m so happy to be the June guest designer here at Elle’s Studio! I live in the great state of Wisconsin with my husband and three children. I have a background in music education, but I’m presently taking a short break from teaching to stay at home with my kids. I began scrapbooking in about fifth grade, when I made my first meticulously crafted page using white typing paper and a hand-drawn crayon title. It was spectacular. I’ve been hooked every since! I’ve been scrapping more seriously since about 2008. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of being on a number of design teams and having my work published in various magazines. My style is colorful and fun with a focus on the little details. In addition to scrapbooking, I also enjoy spending time with my family, reading, music, the outdoors, and my newest hobby – decorating and updating our “new” 90+ year old home! I’m slightly addicted to Instagram (@justemscraps), so follow me there to find out what’s up with my life and my scrapbooking!
Be sure to follow Emily for more colorful inspiration! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful work with us this month, Emily!
